Overview
More
The original Liverpool Philharmonic Hall opened on 27 August 1849, and was an acclaimed and integral part of the cultural life of Liverpool before being dramatically destroyed by fire in 1933.The present day art-deco Philharmonic Hall, designed by architect Herbert Rowse and built on the same site, was officially opened on Monday 19 June 1939. Today it presents on average 250 events each year, of which approximately 70 are concerts by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, and sells over 250,000 tickets annually. The venue has an illustrious tradition of bringing the top names from rock, jazz, classical, folk and roots, classical and contemporary music to Liverpool. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Buddy Holly all appeared at the Hall during their careers. The Hall also hosts classic and blockbuster films and premieres, shown on the unique Walturdaw rising cinema screen with Merseyside's only resident theatre organist, Dave Nicholas. Our new space in the building, the delightfully intimate and informal Music Room, has its own entrance on Sugnall Street, and houses jazz, roots, folk and unplugged gigs. Liverpool Philharmonic has been working with schools and the community since the 1940s, and the Learning programme now offers a range of exciting and inspirational opportunities to get involved in live music-making of the highest quality for thousands of people every year in the Hall and throughout the region.

This is such a beautiful concert hall. The recently refurbished Art Deco building is fabulous. The acoustics are in my opinion the very best in the North of England.

Hi prissypoodle123 Sounds like a delicious meal, but we serve only sick tunes, not club sandwiches! As having hearing difficulties, I was amazed at how well I could hear the speeches at the graduation ceremony. I will look forward to going to a concert in this magnificent setting!

The place is very nice, modern but done with class. In the summer, it's quite hot despite an air conditioner.

Great little theatre in a popular area of Liverpool. Plenty of good eating and drinking places within the local area.If travelling from Lyme street station it is about a 20 minute uphill walk so some may prefer a taxi!More

I always enjoy events here . The recent tribute to The Beatles Sergeant Pepper album was excellent . Toilets have been upgraded and are so much better. Theatre seats are comfortable and acoustics are good.
