About
The Friends of Williamson's Tunnels are the custodians of two fascinating sections of Williamson’s Tunnels. The first, is Paddington, which is formed of multiple and impressive brick arched chambers. These chambers include the cathedral like Level 4, 60ft below street level, located on ‘Paddington’, Edge Hill, L7 3RG. Visits to Paddington are available free of charge. Our second site is Joseph Williamson’s House, we are currently working hard to uncover the hidden history of Joseph's House and its subterranean chambers beneath - Wine Bins, Sandstone Arch, Gash and the famous Banqueting Hall. We have recently uncovered Joseph’s Kitchen, complete with 4 large fireplaces & cooking Ranges. Williamson’s House is on Mason Street, Edge Hill L7 3EW. Extended visits to Joseph’s house are members only. All Visits can be arranged directly from our web site, e-mail or telephone. All visits must be booked in advance and are Free of charge, though we welcome donations

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I found 'Friends of Williamsons Tunnels' whilst looking through TripAdvisor. I had not realised there are two organisations in the city offering tours, having visited the heritage centre a couple of years ago. Of the the two, the 'Friend's of Williamson Tunnels' experience was far superior.
My initial enquiry was made on their website. Lynn e-mailed me back promptly and gave me all the information I needed to book, plus detailed instructions on where to find them. The day before she messaged again to conform our booking.
There are two options: to see one or both sites. My party and I elected for the extended tour and I am so glad we did. Tom was our experienced guide. A gentle man who is obviously passionate about the Tunnels. We spent over two hours on site, were encouraged to ask questions and take photographs.
This tour was the highlight of my trip to Liverpool, and when I next return to the city I will be making my way back to the tunnels to see what further progress they have made.

A very good experience in a very hidden place in Liverpool. I emailed Lynn the day before and she was very quick to book us in one of the visit.
Our guide Tom was very passionate and full of knowledge. My kids loved it, especially looking at all the things they found during the clearing of the tunnels.
A well worth visit !

Perfect to do on a either unbearably hot summerday or freezing winter day as the temperature in the tunn3ls is constantly around 18°C
Interesting historical facts about Liverpool and perfect for any tunnel or cave enthusiast. Booking in advance required.

Fantastic day out made extremely interesting by our Guide Tom, who oozes enthusiasm and a great love and knowledge of Williamson’s tunnels. This tour is great for children and fit adults. I would rate this as a must do thing if you can. Just like Arnie I’ll be back 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 went with my Sister, daughter, granddaughter and hubby. 👍

I found about Williamson's Tunnels by accident after looking for something to do with my little brother and mum. We had an amazing time walking around the underground tunnels, learning not only about Joseph Williamson but also a bit about the time when he was around. It's a great way to spend you time and it doesn't take that long to see everything, you won't even know how the time passed by.

Struggling to see why this isn't the #1 thing to do in Liverpool. My wife and I came for our anniversary and the tour by Lynn was definitely the highlight.
Honestly hope these guys get the permission they need to continue unfolding the story of Joseph williamson and exploring the tunnels.
My favourite thing about the trip had to be the enthusiasm and dedication the team have to exploring the tunnels.
Will definitely come again next time I'm in Liverpool and would strongly recommend anyone visits the city do the same!

The visit was free but we were given the opportunity to donate which we were all happy to do. All the workers are volunteers.
Be aware there are two Williamson's Tunnels tours....one which charges for admission but is more the finished article, and the one I reviewed (The Friends of Williamson's Tunnels), which is still a work in progress.

Has the tunnels got a lot of steps?
My mum is partially sighted so just trying to work out how hard it would be to walk around?

Is it pram friendly? Can I carry my baby if not (in a pouch thing?)

Hi Tim, I am a volunteer with FoWT. Although we are not pram friendly and your little one fits into a carrier, you can take a tour of our Paddington site, but not the house site.
Hope this helps.

Have you yet started on the Magnet site? Any luck?

Hi, we did recently have a dig on the Magnet site, we found many fascinating features and arches. Though we feel the actual Great Tunnel is lower than we first thought. We will not be able to explore the site for 12 months while the site is used for temporary storage. But we hope we can explore further when the land is vacant again.
We are kept busy at the moment on Williamson's House site, lots of interesting features being discovered. Watch this space 😀
En unos meses iré a Liverpool y me gustaría saber el horario y precio de los túneles. Muchas gracias.
