Yet another historical place of interest. If you like ruins, don't miss this castle. There is a free audio guide available in the style of "horrible histories" which can add fun to the visit, provided you have a good knowledge of English (probably not suitable for many visitors from abroad).

The ruins of the castle at Ashby-de-la-Zouch, whilst seriously in ruins, have enough about them to give an insight into life before the ruin. The boards around the sight are informative without being boring, and the whole place is laid out wonderfully well.. Of course it helped that I visited on a glorious sunny day.

I've been here a few times but visited recently with friends who were visiting. They loved it! The kids had a great time and especially enjoyed the 'secret tunnel'. I wouldn't say it was worth a day trip for (unless you are particularly fond of castle ruins) but if you are in the area they it's a great way to... More

Despite living in Leicestershire for many years this was my first visit - and I will return in the future. There is plenty to see in terms of ruins in a good state of preservation, fantastic views from the top of the tower (ok there is a 98 step spiral staircase to get there!) and even an underground passage to... Visited today with my 6 year old daughter as she is doing a homework project on castles. She enjoyed walking around, climbing up the tower steps and back twice! Through the underground tunnel and the audio tour. Great value for money and really interesting to see. Has finished off her homework with some great facts and photos!

This is the place to go on a sunny day, the ruins have dimly lit passageways to walk through and steps to climb up to the top - great for the kids. The open area begs you to have a picnic. The audio commentary might not appeal to all with its delivery, but provides enough information to get the imagination... More

This fabulous ruin has played hosted various visits from my childhood to my adult years. This gorgeous architectural jewel can be found in the friendly town of Ashby De La Zouche in Leicestershire and hours can be spent in the grounds exploring. It took me at least 15 years to pluck up the courage to go into the old underground... More

My children go to school locally, so after dropping them off, I've taken the liberty to visit the castle many times, just to stroll through. If you're local or passing by, you should visit.
