Find out how pencils are made and the history of the lead for the pencils. Plenty of interest for children. Car parking. Well presented displays and information boards. Free pencil given on entry and a pencil prize for those completing a quiz.

Probably should have used TripAdvisor about this one before we went, as although it was fairly interesting it was a poor experience for the price. It’s basically a single room displaying posters and pencils, but we hoped to see more about manufacture (there are a...More

The wife went when she was younger and wanted to take the kids (3 and 1)! Turned out learned a lot and was very good! Defiantly worth a visit if you're in the area! Very good for the kids!!

It is a small museum but we learnt so much in the 80 minutes we spent there. Really intrigued by the secret pencil story and the history of the Pencil making industry.

Even though the factory is at Workington, this is the site of the original production. The museum was very interesting providing lots of useful information, backed up with video films. A good place to visit when the weather is not so good.

This might sound silly but you should go! We (63) enjoyed it. I learned a lot about graphite and pencils. Plus, the ticket is a pencil and you get to keep it!

the most fascinating and interesting museum ever spent ages in here learning of the history of the pencil and the café was excellent value and good food too! never knew it would be so absorbing.. disappointingly there was no little guide book available.

Hi Lucy, we are hoping to reopen on Friday, 26th May. We have been refurbishing the Museum after a severe flood last year.
