A great experience

It was snowing and freezing cold so we decided to have an 'inside' day. A terrific choice. An informative and enjoyable tour with local guide Donald. Well worth a visit.

We visited in early November and really enjoyed the tour. The weather was miserable but that was no problem as most of the tour is under cover - indeed DEEP under cover! An interesting talk in the shop was followed by getting kitted out with hard hats and lamps then we were taken up the mountain by bus to near... More

Went on the mine tour. Donald was very informative, good fun and definitely gave a good flavour of what it must have been like to live and work there. Hard times! Thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend to all.

Fascinating tour! Tory was brilliant and so informative, with excellent subject knowledge and a great sense of humour. Thoroughly recommend you visit the Mine if you are in the area.

We were shown round by Donald an ex miner who is very knowledgeable and has some great tales to tell. At 79 he's a great asset to the mine staff. The prices of the tours are reasonable and the gift shop is well stocked. The staff are all friendly and the drive to and from the mine is lovely.

Went on the morning tour down to the slate mine as the weather was rainy, misty and grey. Wanted something to do to keep out of the rain and see some of the local history of this beautiful landscape. Well I can't believe we didn't go sooner, the tour was everything and more from start to end. Hard hats off... More

We decided to make a trip to the slate mine during our stay in the Lakes after seeing it mentioned everywhere when researching. We booked in for the Kimberley tour as both the husband and I aren't great with heights. Trip up the Honister pass was hairy but we made it without meeting any other cars on the way up... More

We went to Honister in winter. As the Honister Rambler bus wasn't running, we had to walk the couple of miles up from Seatoller Well worth it for the views. The tour of the slate mine was actually conducted by the mother of the mine's owner who reopened it but was tragically killed in a helicopter crash. It was obvious... More
