Stunning Tarn Hows offers an accessible circular (1¾ miles) walk through beautiful countryside with majestic mountain views. A great place to walk and picnic, or to begin your wider Lake District countryside adventure. There are also rare Belted Galloway cattle and sturdy Herdwick sheep grazing by the tarn. There is a mobility scooter available for use for those who are less able to get around the Tarn.

Went for a trip her while we were staying in Coniston ... fantastic views and a sense of peace & tranquillity ... so beautiful whatever the weather. The walk around the tarn itself takes about an hour and is a round trip of bout 3km...More

We had never heard of Tarn Hows but it was recommended to us by our hosts. It is extremely beautiful but note that the road up to it is very narrow and windy - no real problem in mid-April but I can only imagine how...More

Visited for a short walk in the glorious evening sun with the dog. The drive down to the car park offers some wonderful unspoilt views down towards the Tarn which is surrounded by trees and mountains. There’s a viewpoint shortly before you get to the...More

We walked over fields and through woods, quite steep in places but very enjoyable. Ice cream van in car park just before the Tarn. Nice walk round Tarn. Glad we walked as car park costs £5 for two hours. Returned the same way.

The path around the tarn is a well laid gravel path. I cannot remember any steps, so yes I would say so. Enjoy the views.
