Have visited Tarn Hows many times but yesterday was the first time with snow on the fells. Ideal place for walking with families. Good paths suitable for wheelchairs, buggies etc. Approx. 1.5 miles around the tarn. Some slopes but nothing too difficult.

Lovely place, but the car park fills up quite early so lots of people waiting. We were amongst the last to just park easily. The drive up is narrow and a bit hairy, but you can drive out down a one way road that's a bit more relaxing.

This is an ideal place for those who don't want a big trek, with disabled facilities as well. The paths are good, mostly quite wide and clear. The views were lovely and the many people would be able to venture out on the paths even in November. Judging by the size of the car park it may be busy in... More

what a lovely place for a walk round the tarn. Beautiful autumn colours in the trees helped by the great sunshine. Thank you weather gods, you did us proud. Our dog loved it and had a bit of a paddle ( he is not a swimmer ). This is a great couple of hours and even longer if you bring... More

Me, my partner, my mother and my 4 year old all managed to walk around this beautiful man made lake in 2 hours, we were just taking so many photos of the stunning views. My son loved running around and he burned a lot of energy and all the kids I saw there loved it. Such an easy walk and... More

Visited on a quiet Monday morning in Nov, cold but clear. The views are stunning, drive to the site, negates lots of walking for anyone not up to it, then walk as little or as a far as you want/ are able.

This is a wonderful part of the Lake district and there is a well worked out safe footpath to walk around the tarn in about 30-40 minutes, dog friendly, free parking if a member of the national trust

Access from Coniston is by good walking tracks and the journey can be shortened by using the car park at the head of Coniston Water near Monk Coniston. Access to the car park for Tarn Hows is via narrow roads and even at the beginning of November (admittedly on a gloriously sunny day) the car park was full.

We visited here early one morning during our stay in Hawkshead. Even though early in the morning there were quite a few walkers about. We arrived and found easy parking in this National Trust car park. The path around the lake has been constructed to be walker friendly and is mostly gravel all the way round. There is a small... Lovely easy walk for young children - plenty of little off shoots where they can explore and be kids and also areas where they can go down to the tarn and throw stones in! Toilet facilities in car park but no shop or anything so bring a packed drinks and snacks.
