What a fab place this is, lots to see and do and the staff were very informative. Well worth a visit but do check on their website as its not open many times through the year. A real bonus is it's free! Lovely garden to sit in too.

First time we've visited this, even though have been St Albans residents for many years. Didn't realise how much was there! Fascinating. Our young grandson loved it!

We went on the open day with our 3 yr old lad and it was great. Clearly run by volunteers it had a good few things to look at like a model railway and other bits and bobs. When you get into the single box you are right by the mainline tracks and it's a great view for the kids.... More

I am not a railway buff, but I'm married to one and have been on nearly every 'steam' line in this country and anywhere else we have found one. I had seen a notice regarding an 'Open Weekend' at the St Albans South Signal Box and went along with my husband. The volunteers running this event were friendly, enthusiastic and... More

Visited here a while back and was truly taken by the quality of the attraction. The signal box has been restored from dereliction to its current prestine condition by real entusiasts and you would be hard pressed not to share in their enthusiasm. Demonstrations, knowledge sharing and some neat landscaping all come together to deliver a great experience. Highly recommended.

An interesting afternoon for anyone with even the slightest interest in trains and railways with hands-on experience, demonstrations and talks by enthusiastic volunteers.

Every now and again you visit somewhere not expecting much that totally exceeds all expectations. Open on Sunday afternoons on various dates throughout the year (check the website) I parked outside in the road (free for 3 hours) not expecting to be more than about half an hour and stayed almost 3. I learned more about railways and how they... More

The signal box has been lovingly restored and the enthusiasm and knowledge of the volunteers is vast. My little boy loved being able to pull levers and ring bells and the amount of railway memorabilia is impressive. As the 'non-train spotter' of the family, I was not expecting to enjoy the visit as much as I did! Well worth a... More

Every time I visit the old (c.1892) St Albans Signal Box there are a few more items to see. This time the island of Sodor had appeared with a small train track in the gardens with Percy running and James sat in the sidings (currently only one engine can run at a time) along with more old signals (and one...
