The expertise of the staff was second to none. Well worth a look, not what we were expecting from this attraction.

History unfolds. Not a lot to say but words like awesome , spectacular, breathtaking, and more besides. A lot to take in and digest but in a good way. Makes you THINK. Well it did me. Just go .

The experience was enhanced greatly by the staff and some introductory boards, explanations and a video. We were fortunate that we had the guides to ourselves. We spent about two hours there, including looking around the wonderful Cathedral. Well worth a visit to see something of such historical significance.

As we were visiting Hereford, we had to see this and it wasn't a disappointment. There are a number of displays prior to your arrival at the actual map explaining, and putting into context what you are going to see. They are really interesting and help you understand what you are seeing - at the time of its being produced... More

If you are interested in the original map of the world, then this is the place to visit. A lot of development has taken place at the venue over the past few years and you will find the visitor experience much enhanced. The Mappa Mundi has travelled around the world, given its significance, so well worth a trip to Hereford... More

The staff were extremely helpful and entertaining, they know their "stuff". The map itself is fascinating and I recommend buying the book so you can spend time looking at it in more detail

If you have visited the busy county town of Hereford & have made your way to the magnificent Cathedral, I would strongly recommend that during your stay in this beautiful place you go in the chained library & see all the ancient reference books & priceless documents which are on display for the public to view & are actually chained... The Mappa Mundi is the largest complete world map drawn on vellum that has survived from the Middle Ages. It is behind reflective glass and very faded. It was hard to draw any comparison with a modern map of the world as you would expect. The Chained Library was set up in 1611 when the library was found to be... More

We went to Hereford Cathedral mainly to see the mappa mundi as we had heard of it but was not really sure what it was. I personally was a little disappointed by the cathedral as it wasn't very big and more to the point didn't have as much information about tombs etc around it as other places. When we went... More

I'd never heard of the Mappa Mundi but I'm not sure why not. It is absolutely fascinating. One could spend hours looking at all the detail. You can get right up close and personal with it, separated only by a bit of glass. There are displays which make it even more understandable, an english rendition. The chained library is also...
