One of Winchester's five superb Military Museums telling the story of 250 years of campaigning for peace by The Royal Green Jackets and their former regiments, the 43rd and 52nd (The Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry), the 60th (The King's Royal Rifle Corps) and the 95th Rifles (The Rifle Brigade). An outstanding collection of uniforms, weapons, silver, paintings and medals set over two floors. The exhibition on the first floor, entitled 'With the Rifles to Waterloo', opened in 2015 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo. The centrepiece of the exhibition is the 25 square metre model of the battle with light and sound commentary. The museum is situated in Peninsula Square, formerly the barracks and the home of the Rifle Depot.

A team from NADFAS have recently mounted badges which are now displayed in beautiful new drawers. It is so easy to view these now. There is also a small cabinet containing VCs. The museum is a fitting tribute to what we owe the GurkhasMore

There are six museum collections at Peninsula Barracks so it can get a little confusing. The Royal Green Jackets (Rifles) Museum is on the same site as the Gurkha Museum but in a separate building. Collectively we are known as Winchester's Military Museums. Thank you...More

A fascinating collection of historical artifacts, from the deeply personal to the once widely owned. It was also quite amazing just how many wars/campaigns/battles these soldiers have been involved in - they have quite a history of being, surprisingly frequently successfully, skillfully violent. There's a...More

I am not really into military history, so I was surprised how much I enjoyed visiting the museum. Great presentation of all items, and very extensive and well written historical overviews really pull you in. The diorama of the battle of Waterloo was especially impressive.

It was lovely to meet you the other day. You must be very proud of your great, great grandfather. The volunteers and I are pleased that you enjoyed your visit both seeing and holding the Victoria Cross and viewing the other displays.
