We visited this as part of Southampton's Music in the City event and I'm ashamed to say that as a lifelong Sotonian I had NO IDEA it was here! I'm not sure of it's history but I didn't know it has been restored over the years by a team of volunteers, who work and fund raise tirelessly to keep it... More

Train to Poole, Shieldhall day out to the bay for Air Tattoo. Lovely day out. Great place for viewing and chat with the crew who are in love with this old ship. Visit the bridge and engine room. And I'm not a steam geek, but this is a beautifully kept ship. Very relaxing day out.

SS Sheildhall was docked in Poole harbour for a couple of days and having arrived with a deflated feeling of what Poole had to offer I thought I would have a quick wander around the ship to kill time. I`m glad I did, the ole fellas running the show are really friendly and knowledgeable given they are all volunteers its... More

We took a cruise down the Solent in this 1950's steam ship - the largest operating steam ship in Europe they say. Good open decks with plenty of seating, a reasonable saloon with cafe and bar facilities. Once underway there was access all areas, to the bridge, the engine room and boilers. Seeing the historic steam engines pounding away with... More

Heritage Day in Southampton part of it was to be able to and visit ship in docks free. Little complicated as had to get special bus into docks due to security but no problem, heritage bus were fun to ride on. Free entry that day so had a good look around on all decks including engine room , plus had... More

Boarded the steamship Shieldhall at about 9.15am at Poole Quay, right in the middle of the town. Sailed at 10.00. Shieldhall is quite a big ship, so there is plenty of room. However there are steep steps to negotiate and high sills to the doors so it is probably not suitable for those with limited mobility. We headed out of... More

An excellent trip. The ships crew are all experienced, informative, friendly and cheerful, and keep all the passengers well informed of whats happening. The catering facilities are excellent and very efficient with very reasonable prices and a wide selection of food and drinks, including local real ale.

Excellent day on board the SS Sheildhall, it was a smooth cruise from Poole to Bournmouth, despite the awful weather. We still managed to see the red arrows & a few other planes despite this. All the volunteers were very friendly & helpful & after having a good look around we were able to warm up in the engine room.... More

What a great experience! We were on board to watch the Bournemouth Air Festival which is a great air show. The Shieldhall and its crew are superb! A fascinating ship with everything worked by steam engines all over the place, and a lovely crew who are extremely helpful and friendly and explained everything superbly. The weather was a bit rainy... More
