A well kept and spacious collection. In the middle of the city, a broad range of work from ancient to modern.

This is a quietly elegant gallery offering ranges from Degas figurine, Rodin sculpture to LS Lowry, Gainsborough to Snood. It was an adventure to move through the old Masters to the new off beat offerings of the Young Turks. The pictures are set out with little gems and large posers including some poseurs. Take your family, your friends and see... More

I am not the most cultural person but I popped in with my kids to have a look and found it to be most interesting. It is a nice venue and for me and ideal place to view art with a pleasant atmosphere. The kids enjoyed it too and were impressed at skills shown to create art in its various... More

I was not expecting such a huge gallery, but pleasantly surprised. Very impressed with layout,, pictures well set out, lots of information provided. It has free entry so good for families on a budget. Such a diverse range of art, something to suit all tastes.

This is a wonderful gallery with a fantastic collection very well curated. If you like late 19th and early 20th century painting, especially British, you will love it.

This City Council gallery contains a good permanant collection, such as the Byrne-Jones cartoons of Perseus, as well as occasional visiting exhibitions

I'm ashamed to say that despite growing up in Southampton it wasn't until my 30's that I discovered the art gallery in the civic centre. It's a beautiful space which is much bigger than it first appears, but small if you compare it to the size of the main galleries you'd find in a bigger town like London. It's nice... More

Free of charge and always worth keeping an eye out to see what is coming. Most people make the mistake of seeing the main hall only. To the left and right upstairs there are many rooms. Some were taken over by BAS 8 but some were permanent collections. This was a spiritual high, and reminded me of the value of... More

The Art gallery in Southampton isn't appreciated enough in my opinion,it's not trying to sell its self as a national Gallery, they have different exhibits quite regularly and some permanent ones, I haven't been for a while but one of my favourite things is the wooden automata exhibit in the glass case , you put a coin in and it... The gallery is wholly taken over by BAS 8 contemporary art. The "Perseus Room" is the only piece of the permanent collection on show for the duration.
