The theatre was nice , sitting was not very comfortable The row behind was so close that the slightest move was felt by my back The worst thing was the men behind were aloud to go to the pub next door to get more beer when the theatre bar was closed this was during the show then I ended up... The New Theatre Royal and the Kings Theatre are two superb old entertainment venues in Portsmouth. Shows, music, plays etc. etc. are on offer at both. The NTR is a friendly place where the majority of staff are volunteers or Uni students. NTR has had a lot of money spent on it over the recent years and there are now... More

I would sit in this theatre just for the novelty of a comfortable seat that doesn't feel like I should chop 6" off my legs. Great acts too

It is a beautiful theatre with excellent shows. A great deal of money has been spent in the last 3 years.

This was my first visit back the the New Theatre Royal in over 40 years and it brought back memories. The restoration is still ongoing and you can see the efforts they are taking to preserve the original design, layout and facilities whilst bringing the place up to a modern standard. The staff were welcoming and helpful, the atmosphere was... More

We watched two comedians in the Minghella Studio, which according to The New Theatre Royal website, can be turned into a 90 seat theatre. I would call it a theatre in the loosest possible terms. There was no stage. The seats were not banked. So everyone was on the same level. The seats were so uncomfortable, we will never see... More

Thank you for your comments. We are very pleased that you enjoyed the comedians on your visit to see Suzi Ruffell and Tom Allen, and that the staff were all working hard that night. Unfortunately, it was a rather warm evening and the totally show sold out, so the windows were open to try and help keep the atmosphere pleasant... More

What a wonderful theatre, lovingly restored to its original 1860's architecture. Facilities are excellent, seats comfortable, well stocked bar and very friendly, helpful staff. 👍

Staying in the area for the weekend we decided to go to the theatre. The show was a selection of songs etc from Broadway shows. The theatre does not look much from outside, but the interior is lovely retaining much of its character. The modern seats were comfortable if a bit narrow. Despite their only being a small audience the... More

The moment I stepped inside the staff were very helpful & the actors/actresses were amazing & very talented playing musical instruments too ( this show didn't have an orchestra, like... More
