Visited as a group and found the experience very interesting. There much history and for once I loved the souvenir shop. It is not an obvious destination for tourists I think but I would thoroughly recommend taking time out to visit.

A very full history of not just the Royal Marines, but, by association, of British military history over the last 350 years. This is a serious adult museum and, whilst there are some things for younger children to interact with, it will appeal most strongly...More

Apart from the building itself which is magnificent piece of architecture. The exhibition inside has so much history, one visit is not sufficient.

The museum closes at the end of March - to be located within the historic Portsmouth Naval Dockyard. It will be 2020 before it re-opens so this is now literally your last chance to see the museum in its historic barracks setting. I strongly advise...More

This museum is at the far end of the beach on Southsea, a pleasant drive, but not walkable from town. In the grounds of old navy barracks, it has informative displays detailing the history and significance of the Marines. Excellent staff who didn't rush us...More

Later that day we made a visit to the Royal Marines Museum. Unfortunately for us it was rather full. But we took the opportunity to look at the gardens and memorials. And we can come back another day.
