The Bexhill section of the 1066 walk has benefitted from the building of the new link road. Paths have been improved and the creation of a new lake is a definite plus. Took us about an hour to walk from Bexhill Old Town to Crowhurst. The route is reasonably flat and well signposted. The bonus is having the recently refurbished... More

Just completed a section of the 1066 route from Rye to Winchelsea and then back via other paths to Winchelsea beach and Rye harbour reserve. Ten mile walk with interest all the way, varied hedgerows, streams, new born lambs, historic town, great pub at the New Inn , birds in abundance and to cap it all a wonderful ploughmans at... More

What a lovely atmosphere we loved walking around the area and enjoying all the beautiful homes and businesses we felt like we had stepped back in time. Loved it and can't wait to share this beautiful town with friends and family

Accessed this walk by bus from Rye, A good walk, at Fairlight cove we picked up the Saxon Way which was extremely muddy. I think we would have fared better to have stayed on the 1066

Initially we walked randomly around Rye until we noticed map in shop. Followed it thoroughly and informative without doubt.

Having walked the first half, from Pevensey to Battle I can confirm that it's definitely a fantastic walk, especially in the sunshine. It's also fairly easy; mostly on the flat and with only a couple of small hills en route to Battle. Nice mix of farmland, woodland and water. Generally very well signposted too, a definite bonus, even with a... More

My friend and I started in Rye and followed part of this route up to Winchelsea and then on to the Royal Military Canal down to Plett Level and back to Winchelsea Beach, then up to Camber Castle and Rye. It was a glorious walk with wonderful weather and easy walking. Good stops at the Deli in Winchelsea, then at... More

We walked along part of the 1066 trail from Westfield to the coast and from Icklesham to Rye via Winchelsea over 2 separate days. The scenery is very varied and the views to the sea magnificent. Along the way we stopped off at the Two Sawyers Pub in Pett, Coastguard's Cafe at Firelight, the New Inn at Winchelsea and the... More

The best thing about this walk is the fact it is 1,066 steps long Can you believe it ? That's the same number as the date it commemorates What a coincidence If you're visiting Rye do this walk and you'll feel better for it Then eat a pie at Simon the Pieman

We walked this country trail in four days, returning each time to our B&B Aviemore in Rye. We started in Pevensy and got there by bus. It takes a bit of planning, but travelling by bus is very doable. We saw beautifull churches, interesting sites (Battle) and enjoyed the views, sometimes it was a little hard to find the way,...
