This is a delightful piece of history as it is the first electric railway in the world. Now operated by Brighton Council, the line runs along the front at Brighton to the Marina. At under £4 return for an adult, I think this offers really good value, and avoids the rather long walk from central Brighton to the Marina which... More

My husband and I were so happy to see that the Volks railway was still running and being maintained. We loved the trip, took us back to when we were younger.

We came upon this adorable train by chance. We had just finished a game of crazy golf and was going to walk towards the Marina so this was an excellent alternative to walking! We bought a family return ticket for £9.70 which I think is reasonable as I'm sure the rail tracks need maintenance. Running from Aquarium station to Black... More

We took the train from the marina to the pier. Not bad value £2.90. Very rickety, but that's part of the fun! At the half-way point, they crammed in more people and everyone was very uncomfortable.

Travelled on the railway rather than walk back to the marina area where we were staying. The journey is short but scenic as it's next to the beach and the promenade. Good to say you have been on the oldest electric railway. Friendly staff and reasonable price to help maintain the trains and track. Worth a visit when in Brighton.

A nice little train but doesn't go all the way to the marina. A bit expensive really if you think for about the same price you can go all the way up the Great Orme in Llandudno on two trams and it is actually cheaper to get a taxi to the Marina!

Take the handy 12 minute train journey back from the Marina to the pier to take the weight off your feet. Take dogs too as long as not wet/sandy and can travel at your feet. Railway closes for 4th September for repairs

What a fabulous little train from Marina to the Pier! Such a delightful train ride and the whole family enjoyed it! The train goes right along the seafront!

A Brighton institution, the Volks railway also provides a very practical way of getting from the Marina to town and back. Surprisingly, there appears to be no signage at the Marina directing people to the station, and to reach it you have to go to the corner of Asda's car park and through a rather grubby tunnel. Worth the trouble... More
