- evie bHurstpierpoint, United Kingdom20 contributionsA quirky and fun shopping areaThis area of small streets and independent shops and cafes is the most interesting in Brighton. It is still managing to keep its vibe, with an amazing mix of small shops selling new and vintage clothes and belongings, semi precious beads, crystals, veggie shoes, street fashion, beautiful flowers, and more. The mix of cafes offers all sorts of food, delicious veggie fare, cake treats, chidren's meals etc. In good weather many streets are traffic free and you can sit out with your coffee or meal. It's a fun place to wander through.Visited February 2023Written 9 February 2023
- Paul FSlough, United Kingdom9 contributionsBrightonPlenty of places of interest. The North Laine and Royal Pavilion are a must. I am visually impaired and I was given an audio description aid for my trip around the pavilion, this was a brilliant addition and helped me enjoy the experience. Was on the beach for sunrise. Brilliant!!!Visited February 2023Written 15 March 2023
- Mrs_WPNewcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom57 contributionsGreat area, interesting shops, cafes and street art!Great area to visit. Lots of interesting independent shops, cafes etc. My children loved the bubble tea shops (there seemed to be a few!). Nice to see so many unique and interesting shops, loved the bonsai trees and street art! Would highly recommend visiting North Laine if you’re in Brighton, one of my favourite areas.Visited April 2023Written 14 April 2023
- BartonbearsCoffs Harbour, Australia1,938 contributionsVibrant, colourful and full of energyThese laneways with their colour and lively vibe feels like the heart of Brighton. There is a vast range of independent shops, bars and eateries and is a great place to watch the passing throng. There are some surprises as well, such as the well-stocked homewares shop and the art gallery selling works by the likes of Banksy, David Hockney, and currently with a Pablo Picasso exhibition. This is a place not to miss when visiting Brighton.Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 May 2023
- crystal c12 contributionsYou must see this if you are in Brighton. After reading about this place, I made the decision to visit it. Since most of the streets were solely for pedestrians, it was pleasant to stroll about. There were several lovely stores around. Additionally, there were a few places to dine.Visited August 2023Written 9 September 2023

It’s worth doing a bit of ‘Lanes/Laines’ research before coming to Brighton to find out a bit of history and what’s where… but I didn’t so here is my retrospective take on what I would have done :)
AREAS
In Brighton there are ‘two’ Lanes areas; The Lanes, immediately behind the seafront (see Google maps pic), and North Laine area slightly further North (!). (See pics). Both are within walking distance of the seafront. Both are better with good weather!
PARKING
If you are driving - either Trafalgar Street car park - North of North Laine or RCP Parking in between The Lanes & North Laine. Both are expensive.
NORTH LAINE
Quirky shops, carpets, antiques & vintage/second hand clothing etc. Head for North Laine Bazaar, Kensington Gardens (street) as this is the main place. Other streets are definitely worth a wander such as Gardner Street with its outdoor cafes, Cornish Pasty Shop, red snail and character gift shops.
We preferred this area to The Lanes.
GRAFFITI
If you’re into graffiti there’s loads of it about, so do a bit of Googling first and if up at the rail station, start with Prince Albert on Trafalgar Street….
Hope this helps…

So it was amazing, they had all sorts of stuff! Mainly vintage but still. They had boba, they had cool dressed purses bags etc, it was very indie, and they had things really cheap then their regular place. This place is so cool!

grazie mille a chi risponderà!

Brighton è giusta! Esci dalla stazione e dopo 5 minuti di discesa sulla sinistra trovi north Laine se prosegui invece inizi già a vedere il mare!

How much of it has disabled access?
MoragB123
Brighton and Hove, UK5 contributions
accessible public toilets in the area:
Jubilee Library – Jubilee Street
Brighton Museum – Royal Pavilion Gardens
Prince Regent Swimming Pool – Church Street
Royal Pavilion Gardens – Princes Place
Lots of street cafes/eating places as a lot of North Laine is pedestrianised so no problem getting something to eat.
I have taken wheelchairs into Komedia - very helpful - most shops are very disability aware and will make provision - Really friendly place!
