Undisturbed Burrator is surrounded by mixed woodland which sharply contrasts with the open moor and rugged Dartmoor tors. The reservoir is popular with walkers, cyclists and horse riders due to its wealth of footpaths and bridleways. Many of the trails lead on to Dartmoor so it makes an ideal starting point for longer trips. The circular walk which follows the lanes around the water is ideal for families as it is easy going and flat. It will take between 1.5 - 2 hours to complete and is approximately 3.5 miles. Parking is possible at various locations including the Quarry car park, Norsworthy Bridge and the Dam.Low cost bank fishing for both rainbow and brown trout is available at this scenic water; permits are sold at the garage in Yelverton.Being within Dartmoor National Park we kindly request that you drive and park with consideration to other users and animals. The National Cycle Route 27 runs near to Burrator further information is available on the sustrans websiteIce cream vans visit the dam, Norsworthy Bridge and Sharpitor car park.

We are very fortunate to live in an hours driving distance to this beauty spot. Summer, winter. spring and Autumn brings a different vista. We never tire of driving out to Burrator. When we were young it was ideal for children to climb the various tors (especially Sheepstor) which surround the resevoir. On a nice summer day what better than... More

This is the source of most of Plymouth's water supply, Burrator Reservoir. There are no activities on the water but the walk around the reservoir is well worth it . Two other places you can try while you are here is the old railway line from Yelverton to Princetown which is on the left going to the reservoir and can... More

We recently went for a walk along the river with stunning bluebells covering the area. All we could hear was the tinkling of the water and the chirpy birdsong.

I live very close by and have always loved Burrator, the perfect place to go on any number of lovely walks through woods or over moorland and tors. Burrator Arboretum is a great place to take the kids for shorter walks and to spot things like tadpoles and dragonflies etc.

Burrator Reservoir has beautiful scenery, with picturesque walks around the lake and abundant trees which sweep from the skyline to the water's edge. Visited in May when the trees were starting to come into full leaf, and the birds were singing as the sunshine sparkled on the blue waters. Look out for Willy's ice cream van, but be warned...there are... More

Thank you so much for your review. I'm so pleased you enjoyed Burrator. It really is a beautiful time of year. Please note that the toilets are located at the dam opposite the ice cream van (24hrs/ 7 days a week/ 20p pay as you go) or at the discovery centre during opening hours. I hope this helps. More
