We returned to the Barbican after a few years away and first stop was the Dolphin Inn, a regular haunt of mine 40 years ago when I was in the navy. It's still a great little pub and on a Friday afternoon in August the...More

The Pub is well located in near the quay in The Barbican. The interior is quirky with curvy organic shaped pews and brown leather banquettes. On the walls are locally inspired artworks. On a Thursday afternoon / early evening it was pleasantly busy. But not...More

Basically, best pub in Plymouth! Nice and traditional with a massive range of beer to choose from. I could have spent all day and night in there!

Serving an excellent range of beers, the Dolphin is full of character and packed with history. With no airs and graces, and a mixed clientele from squaddies to students to pensioners to tourists, the atmosphere is lively, welcoming and fun. A great boozer. Highly recommended.

Always made very welcome when we go in here for a drink. Bar staff are all friendly, even when we had almost finished our drinks when the barmaid knocked them over accidently, we told her there was no need to replace them but the manager...More

If you like your beer drawn straight from the barrel, coal fires, friendly barmaids, and a very basic room which had stone flagged floors then this is the place for you. Arrived in the early evening, drank steadily working your way through all the beers...More

Don't go expecting any fancy food - this is a proper pub, with proper beer, for proper drinkers. And it is properly good beer, straight from the keg. 8 real ales when we visited, plus ciders and some of that fizzy beer. Try the Doombar...More

They don't, there's just the bar, it's not a private function kind of place, but there are dozens of Plymouth pubs and clubs that will provide a free function room provided you drink their booze.

It seems they have acquired the entire estate of Punch Taverns (wont let me post the link). They stress they're keen to work with and keep the ethos of those pubs they take over. Time will tell.

No they don't. If the cash point on Southside street isn't working, there is another COOP with a cash point on Notte Street. (Head out of the Barbican towards town and take a left). Next nearest that doesn't charge, is... More
