What should be the heart of the tourist attraction area for the City of Plymouth is instead a messy and soulless place that once seen is very easily forgotten. Shops, such as they are, do not open until ten in the morning leaving coaches and trippers kicking their heels with just the oily water lapping the posh boats as the... More

We spent an enjoyable couple of hours exploring the Barbican area which had been recommended to us. There is a lot of interest from the waterside frontage to the quaint streets behind, including Plymouth Gin which was fully booked on our visit but certainly worth a tour, the Elizabethan Garden, and attractive shops and cafes. Sitting at an open air... More

What a place! It has the lot! .... 15th century houses to modern glass buildings, cobbled streets, waterside, fishing boats to yachts, old world pubs to modern wine bars, fine food to street food, places for history buffs to great place for fishing with kids. There are some awesome curio & antique shops, art galleries and collectibles, not to mention... More

When we visited the Barbican the weather was very good and there was a pirate day, with lots of people suitably dressed up (we even saw Captain Jack Sparrow), there were singing pirates, firing of a cannon, a raft race, and lots of good pubs and places to eat - a thoroughly enjoyable day

Great place for a relaxing stroll, antique and vintage shops, homemade cakes and fish and chips by the sea.

This has always been my favourite part of Plymouth with plenty of atmosphere and interesting sights. There's New Street, the oldest street in Plymouth, with glimpses of its past and the Elizabethan Gardens; Coates Distillery, the oldest gin distillery in the country; the Mayflower Steps where the Pilgrim Fathers set sail for America and the new Aquarium. Best of all... More
