The Plym Valley Railway has re-built a one and a half mile section of the ex-Great Western branch line from Marsh Mills to Plym Bridge. The line used to run from Tavistock Junction, just outside of Plymouth, to Launceston. It is a heritage railway centre where we are preserving steam and diesel locomotives, carriages, wagons, and other historic railway artifacts to recreate the atmosphere of a bygone age.We operate passenger trains on selected days over a section of the line from our station at Marsh Mills to Plym Bridge Platform.New and enthusiastic volunteers are needed in all departments, including Motive Power, Permanent Way, Carriage and Wagon, Building and Works, fund raising and retail outlets.

This is a marvellous place to visit, it is run by enthusiasts and volunteers. We went with two of our young grandchildren, they had a great time and even travelled on the footplate, it's a lovely ride through a beautiful wooded and country setting, it has a first class carriage and it was great to go back in time, great... I think this is a great local service it doesn't pretend to be some corporate and franchise steam railway but a small patch of line that is being extended run by enthusiasts and volunteers. It's a good little service that our sons have enjoyed and is very reasonably priced for what you get. We go a couple of times a... More

Although the Railway was closed when I visited when I was walking the disused railway line. I asked if I could have a look about and the very cheerful bunch working on a diesel train said yes and let me have a wonder about and get some pictures. Lots of old trains, carriages etc to see. Next time I am... More

My wife and I took our three nieces/nephews and our friend's one year old girl on this trip on Saturday 17th December. Although the whole outfit is organised and run by volunteers, we were surprised by the whole event. While the ride was somewhat short, the mini event at the end was worthwhile. For the sake of a measly £5... More

So we have been here several times with our two year old son. He simply loves it. Considering it is run by volunteers I feel they don't get the credit they deserve. Always polite, friendly and make the experience excellent for my so. I've been on the diesel and the brake van rides with my son and I being in... More

Hi Allan, Firstly thank you for your review and feedback. I'm sorry that you had a bad experience with us. Unfortunately our leaflets were produced in November 2015 and at that stage we believed it would be steam, however, several delays in the voluntary restoration of the steam engine led to it being diesel hauled- as advertised on the event... Hi Aaron, Thank you for your review. I'm sorry that you had a bad experience with us and I can only apologise for this. The fares were raised due to the extra attractions ie band, beer festival, miniature railway. The event itself was advertised as a diesel locomotive due to the unavailability of a steam locomotive. In our leaflets, which... More
