I've been to Plymouth before and admired The Citadel from the outside; getting a tour inside with a very knowledgeable local guide was outstanding. As other reviewers have indicated you need to sign up online to reserve your spot, although one couple just showed up...More

When visiting Plymouth a wander around the Citadel walls is a must. Bracing winds and great views leave little to desire. If you like an army boy or two to look at the Citadel has these in abundance (along with a collection of nice coffee...More

Well worth a visit to take in all our heritage. Some amazing views. If you can walk around here with a local who knows the local knowledge all the better.

You will come across the Royal Citadel as you walk along the Plymouth Hoe. Built in the 1660s as a fortress to defend Plymouth. It is still an active military base. The walls of the Citadel are impressive and has been regularly strengthened and extended...More

Massive fortification protecting the city from the sea and approaches. Lots of history. Still and active base but with beautiful lawns stretching high above the city and harbour
