Clovelly, North Devon. World famous for our cobbled, traffic-free street, donkeys, sledges and historic harbour.

The stunning views, peaceful tranquility and cobbled, traffic-free, high street of this world famous fishing village, built into a cleft in a 400' high cliff, tumbles its way down past whitewashed cottages festooned with flowers to the tiny working port.

It is famous for its donkeys, which traditionally carry goods up the hill; sledges bring things down. There are links with Charles Kingsley, Turner, Dickens and the Spanish Armada.

Visited here recently. I notice they are STILLl trying to charge "entrance to the village," even though IT IS A PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAY down the cobbled street main street to the harbour. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY TO WALK ON A PUBLIC HIGHWAY maintained by the council. Ever get the feeling you've been cheated? The gullibility of the... More

Be prepared to walk down some steep hills so wear comfortable shoes. We went for a two day visit as wanted to walk to mouthmeal cove and we wouldn't have been able to complete both in one day. The weather was glorious and both the bay and cove looked fantastic.

Clovelly is just as pretty as the photos show it to be. It is an attraction so you pay to go in, but it is well worth it. There are shops, pubs & places to eat. It is very steep & cobbled stoned , so you need sensible shoes, but there is a Landrover to take you back to the... More

Beautiful village to visit. Had a great lunch in cottage tea rooms with perfect view. Lovely walk down to harbour and back. However I fail to see how that can justify such a high charge to enter village. The visitors centre was full of really tacky souvenirs . The shops also didn't really inspire. I would understand if a parking... More

It is pretty and unusual but so are lots of devon villages. For our family it didn't justify paying to walk around a village? Do not attempt if you don't have good footwear, we saw some people really struggling. It is hard work uphill but the ice creams at the top on a hot sunny day were lovely.

We had a lovely day here, although we were lucky to have a dry sunny day, I wouldn't attempt the climb down if it was raining. My son really enjoyed brushing the donkeys and I found the Clovelly soap shop had some great products. In addition we enjoyed a cream tea in the coffee shop, which was good value. We... More

Costs about £8 each to get in to the village but it is beautiful. Worth getting the 4x4 back up at a cost of £2-50 a person. Walk up is a killer!

Beautiful village.totally unspoiled. No cars allowed. Entrance fee includes car parking and all attractions. Narrow cobblestone streets on very steep slope down to quayside. Thoroughly enjoyed the visit, but did struggle getting down the hill and back up. Donkeys, pottery, silk, candles, soap and much more. Lovely lunch in the pub. Cream teas looked delicious. Would definitely go again when... More
