About
Morrab Gardens is a public park, with luxuriant sub-tropical planting established over many years, in the centre of Penzance. The quality of a public space gives a strong impression of an area. It is part of what gives a town its identity, and local residents a sense of civic pride. By the late nineteenth century, Penzance had become a popular seaside resort and required a park for visitors’ recreation. To this end, Penzance Corporation acquired Morrab House, along with its grounds, in 1888 for £3,120. The villa was leased by Penzance Private Library and the gardens were designed and set out to the scheme of paths and borders which can be seen to this day. When the Gardens were established, in the 1880s, unlike today there were no nurseries selling exotic plants, the original planting was the result of gifts from local estates.

Fascinating and peaceful.
May 2021
An oasis of green with paths meandering around pools. Between town and promenade for a peaceful rest and reflection.

Attractive sub-tropical gardens
Oct 2020
Morrab Gardens cover an area of 3 acres and are centrally located close to the centre of town and also the promenade. The gardens are full of Mediterranean and sub-tropical plants and is a pleasant area of Penzance. Within the grounds is Morrab House which contains Morrab Library and was built in 1841. The gardens are maintained to a high standard and a number of others were enjoying the tranquil place when we visited in October 2020 during a brief relaxation of Covid restrictions.

Not as good as we thought it may be, but good also the same.....
Plenty of differing plants which were different to see, so rather interesting as we walked through......squirrels were noticed as well as Robins and blue tits.....

Haven of tranquillity.

Beautiful, tranquil gardens. Pleasant surprise to see so many plants still flowering in mid October, and away from all the hustle and bustle of Penzance sea front. Peaceful oasis.

Lovely gardens and park
Sep 2020
Great little gardens and park, hidden away off the seafront area of Penzance. Plenty of places to sit in the sunshine or shade. Interesting and exotic plants too.

Lovely gardens, although not many flowers at this time of year. Very nice walks, and very peaceful place.

Delightfully tranquil sub-tropical gardens which are perfect to relax in, and enjoy passing wildlife, after looking around the equally recommended Penlee Gallery and Museum.

Lovely tropical style gardens near the centre of Penzance.

Free entry, it's nice to take a stroll here or just to sit on a park bench and relax.
