More
The museum collection on display reveals an island community changing over the years to both external and internal pressures. Alderney has a fascinating history starting with extensive Stone, Bronze and Iron Age activity, with evidence of historically important Roman activity at Longy. The Victorian era brought huge change to Alderney and the landscape is still dominated by Queen Victoria's interest in the island as a defence harbour from the French. Most recently the Second World War had an extreme effect on Alderney when all but a few of the island's inhabitants were evacuated and the island occupied by German forces for the duration of the war.

The two ladies on reception were an absolute delight to talk to, giving us lots of information and stories about the island. The museum itself is small but has some interesting artefacts and information. Definitely worth a visit.

We were recommended to go to the museum and it was really interesting and informative. We really got an insight into how the Alderney residents coped with the evacuated during the war and also their homecoming.

This is a good place to spend a couple of hours, especially if it's raining. Don't miss the modern conclusion to the Bayeaux Tapestry on the first floor.

Very informative and supported by volunteer staff who provide an excellent insight into the island's history. As in most things, although small, it is perfect for the visitor and any with children.

Well worth an hour to visit but do check times in advance. Particularly liked the section on the evacuation and German occupation during the war. Friendly staff who are quite willing to have a chat with you.

Full of interesting facts and displays on the history of the island. Particularly liked the stories of those who were evacuated at the start of WW2, which I was unaware of. Very informative and well worth a visit if you're on The island.

On a wet day we decided to visit the Museum. Our advice is do not wait for a wet day. It is fascinating, outlining the history of the island, both good and bad. Alderney has had a very unique, chequered past which few of us...More

We were over on a recent visit and was hoping to visit the museum. Unfortunately this was not to be as it was closed on a Saturday afternoon. It was a shame as there were other visitors also disappointed. Please reconsider opening times in the...More
