The Stained Glass Museum offers a unique insight into the fascinating history of stained glass, an art-form that has been practised in Britain for at least thirteen hundred years.

Our permanent gallery displays over 125 stained glass panels representing eight hundred years of the history of this ancient art, from the thirteenth century to the present day. All the stained glass panels in the gallery are displayed at eye-level enabling visitors to have a rare close-encounter with the art of stained glass.

Temporary exhibitions are also held throughout the year, highlighting panels and designs from the Museum's reserve collection.

Visited to attend a talk being given by the curator of this wonderful museum and found it extremely interesting. The museum is located within Ely Cathedral, and a hidden gem. Fascinating stained glass from mediaeval through to present day, with curatorial historical and technical information provided throughout adding to the wonder of the place. Would recommend to anyone able to... More

whilst visiting the Ely Cathedral we spent time at the museum. Not the largest collect but comprehensive. Although in evidence I would have liked to have seen more story telling about the processes that go into making a finished piece of stained glass. As it stands right now you are round the displays in a short period of time. More... More

A good historical view of stained glass with some fine examples from another time. Not as large of a display as I imagined but tastefully done. Nice gift shop also.

What a rare treat to see such an exhibit of stained glass. So much is covered in this one floor display. The scale models are wonderful and theres something for everyone, including children. The fact that it is in the cathedral itself is a bonus. P;an on a good hour to flly appreciate all the styles of works.

This museum is well worth the extra admission cost to the Cathedral. Situated up some 40 steps the layout gives a progressive history of stained glass. I found it fascinating although would have liked to see modern non-ecclesiastical works more.

We were glad that we included this in our visit to Ely Cathedral. The receptionist was pleasant & helpful & supplied us with audio guides which were free and enabled us to follow the history of stained glass down through the centuries. The initial video was informative & was a good introduction to the visit. The exhibition itself was well... More

Well worth a visit especially as it is in the Cathedral and therefore very easy to access. Plenty of information (hand held audio guides) and very colourful. r.

Wonderful seeing the stained glass 'up close'. So glad we took the offered free audio guide which gave extra information on many of the examples. Learnt a lot about the progression of stained glass from medieval times to the current day. We spent far longer here than we anticipated. However, this is not a good place for someone with vertigo...
