Beautifully restored, full of charm

Beautifully restored, full of charm old theatre. Lots of history. In the heart of Bristol, pubs and clubs to go after the performance.

The Bristol Old Vic has been putting on plays since the 1770's. The theatre is undergoing restoration but don't let that put you off. The exterior is magnificent and the auditorium has kept its essential Georgian features, though the pit has seating now. We saw a production of La Strada adapted from Fellini's 1954 and would rate it as a... More

Love this beautiful little theatre! Easy to access and an amazing array of plays. Some are quite wacky, but great to see different genres. If you book the play for the first dates, usually it's half price

Although there is some disruption because of refurbishing it in no way detracts from the character of the venue. A unique theatre which can only be improved by the current works.

The Bristol Old Vic is one of the oldest theatres in the UK. The auditorium is small and has several levels so you always feel close to the stage. The sound is excellent. A few seats have a slightly restricted view. Productions are excellent.

The production of Handel's Messiah was incredible. However, our original seats were so uncomfortable we nearly left during the interval. They appeared to be some sort of extra seating that an usher would use. Luckily, we found 2 spare 'proper' seats for the second act.

last night's performance of the Messiah was amazing. The passion play was powerful. If you can get tickets, go see it. Toby Jones will play Jesus on Sunday.

Every play I have seen at The Old Vic has been a joy. If you have long legs, stand up....leg space is very tight. We sat on the stage during The Crucible (as part of the jury in the trial scene)... really enhanced the experience.

Fab afternoon watching this thought provoking play. Very friendly staff. Even with the current construction works this is such a very beautiful theatre. Really enjoyed it. 👍❤️
