The route is extremely well signposted and easy to follow. There are some water points along the way though you'll need to take a collapsible bucket as most are taps. Some lovely views and glorious canters but it's very hilly and steep in places, you'll...More

Great trip across the Downs. Very well signposted all the way. Views over the coast and inland were amazing from a number of points. Make sure to plan route and book accommodation as not much on the route itself so will have to drop down...More

This is a fantastic route for walking and cycling. Walked it all (98 miles) years ago in a 3-day weekend in pretty gloomy and foggy weather, as training for the Ten Tors challenge. I always had good memories despite the weather and the toughness of...More

South downs magic walking, loads of heritage, pretty villages and a feeling of wide open countryside. Not easy to find in the south east.. I like trying the many country pubs along the route :)

This town was in West Sussex and includes the South Downs which is a area of green rolling hills. A beautiful country setting.

I love the soft roundness of the South Downs. When the sun shines through the clouds on such days the downs have shaded contours which are great for photographers. There are so many parts of the Downs from Eastbourne to Winchester, many walks with snuggled...More

We have walked from Winchester to Eastbourne along the SDW as a holiday (not a challenge!) and enjoyed every mile. We booked our holiday through Pear Tree Tours/ Foorprints of Sussex. Richard McKenna booked our 7 nights accommodation and organised all of our bag drops...More

Fortunately the South Downs now has National Park status, and let's hope this beautiful landscape in crowded, overpopulated Southern England will continue to be preserved as it is. This is one of my favourite parts of the country and I was fortunate to live for...More
