These internationally acclaimed floral display gardens, and National...

These internationally acclaimed floral display gardens, and National Historic Site of Canada, started over 100 years ago and remain privately owned by the family. Jennie Butchart wanted to make her husband's depleted limestone quarry look better and the result is the Sunken Garden. Other gardens include the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. The gardens are meticulously maintained and provide a riot of colour for much of the year. During the summer, special lighting subtly illuminates the gardens, musical entertainment takes place on the Concert Lawn, and there are ten spectacular Saturday night Firework Shows. The Magic of Christmas season also has beautiful lighting and evening entertainment, and an outdoor skating rink. Spring offers hundreds of thousand flowering bulbs and Autumn is the time for dahlias, chrysanthemums and fall colours. The Gardens is open daily, year round.

I made the mistake of visiting at the end of March. I can see how the gardens are likely stunning in summer but this time of year there are almost no flowers in bloom and it was at best mediocre. Looking at other reviews, it seems that the flowers are esp. delayed this year. Giving this 2 stars as I... More

Butchart Gardens are very well maintained gardens. A lovely walk on a spring day. However the admission price of nearly $32 per person is a little steep in the off season considering most of the plants are not blooming for a few more months. I think there should be an off season admission to recognize the fact that it isn't... More

Beautiful any time of the year. This year, due to cold and wet, flowers are delayed. Be sure to take your own water bottle, then fill it there if necessary, as they will no longer be selling bottled water. When the weather is good, it can be crowded.

These gardens are very well designed and laid out, though it wasn't as large as I was expecting. The Japanese garden was lovely, if a bit small. The rose garden and English gardens would be beautiful I'm sure, a bit later in the year. Unfortunately we came too early and hardly anything was in bloom, which was our mistake. If... More

Avoid visiting in March period, you won't see anything. Not a good time to visit in March. Maybe around May-Oct would be the best time to visit. Only thing we liked was, landscaping.

Butchart gardens is well worth a full day visit! Gardens, landscaping design, and flowers were all beautiful. We particularly enjoyed the quarry and Japanese garden. Gift shop is pretty awesome as well!

One of Birtish Columbia’s landmarks, this private garden is a must see. It has kept its old school charm but can be to crowded at times. Go there early in the morning to have a bit of space for yourself and the chance to take picture without having to excuse yourself ten times in a row. A very short distance... More

I have to say that I can tell that the Butchart Gardens is probably a very beautiful and breath taking place, by the little we saw. I say that because, unfortunately for us the weather was the worst they've had here in 26 years, or so I've heard! What we did see was all indoors of course, but it was... More

This is one of the great gardens to visit in North America. The fountain is computer controlled and I'm told that is does not repete the same pattern very often.

Excellent well laid out garden. Check the weather & time of year if you want to see lots of flowers better to go late spring or during the summer. Amazing English afternoon tea, a must for any visitor!
