Stunning location, the water was so clear with trout swimming in the rapids. The rock formations are amazing and the caves interesting. A really great walk for families and experienced hikers alike. Easy to spend the whole day with lots of interesting views.
However, upon parking and paying the fee we thought we would use the toilets before we set off as there are no toilets for a long time. Really disappointed with the state of the ladies- the bathrooms looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in years with discarded wads of loo roll on the floors, dirty walls and rubbish left on most of the surfaces. I even found used tea-bags in one of the sinks when going to wash my hands. Please sort this out as it does put a slight damper on a beautiful place to be out in nature.

My favourite place to visit. This was the most beautiful place I visited in the Peak District. I went at 9am and there were only a few other visitors.

The walk is picturesque and the views are beautiful. A nice gentle walk and perfect for photos.

Car park was £3.50 cash only so I drove up to Thorpe and parked in a lay-by just after the cattle grids then cut across the field along a public footpath.

Stunning. We have not visited this part of Derbyshire before, to be honest we are caravannersi and it was the caravan site we were attracted to, however, wherever we go we explore places and Dovedale did not disappoint. We look at the beauty this country has to offer and can't understand why people do not spend a little more time in getting to know their own country first. Car parking free because we are NT members, but if you aren't what's the cost of a car park charge for a wonderful place like this and as usual the place is kept immaculate. My husband crossed the stepping stones with our dog who also loved it because she is an explorer, she wanted to go again and again. Easy walking, you can easily push a wheelchair around there, a lovely gentle walk. We will be going back without doubt.

Fantastic views. Good family fun. Great country walks.
Parking can be expensive at £4 but if you have National Trust it’s free.

We came again here midweek to miss the crowds, it is one of the most beautiful spots in the country,, but now upon arrival to the car park there is a payment machine but it only takes £4.50 in coins with no change given, so at the weekend it must be chaos with people trying to get change, having said that the walk along the river dove and past the stepping stones is a joy, beautiful scenery everywhere, well worth a visit.

Such a lovely picturesque place to visit and will def be returning. Gorgeous peaks and river flowing with lots to see along the way. Lovely little cafe serving tea/coffees and muffins cookies plus yummy ice creams to begin or end the walk with. Very helpful National trust staff in hand to answer any questions or provide information. Stepping stones were quite busy but visitors were then spread out along walk and didn’t disturb our plans or cause us any problems. Everyone friendly and enjoying themselves. Car park very busy at 11 but we got a space but had emptied out about 3 ish when we left.

Although busy being Easter Day (and fab weather) we had enjoyable walk to the stepping stones and beyond as far as Lovers Leap. A nice flattish track ( until the steps up to the top). Plenty of space and time to get photos without people in them! The National Trust van was there so easy to pay parking by card - otherwise it is cash only.

Our walk to the Dovedale Stepping Stones and further along the river was the absolute standout of our trip this year. The food cart in the car park offered a decent selection of good quality food and pleasant toilet options (even if they do charge 20p for entry!). This is definitely an attraction that we will revisit in the future, without a doubt!

A very pleasant spot especially out of season as it gets really busy. The unfortunate result is folks taking lots of picnic stuff including barbecues which are supposed to be banned and leaving a lot of litter. The further you walk along the valley the quieter it gets.
The toilet turnstile was broken when we visited. The road to the car park is also very narrow so if you have a big vehicle you may get stuck.

Thoroughly recommend this - arrive early to beat the crowds and definitely pack your Wellington boots!
