It was a tough hike up to see these castles on top of the mountain but it was totally worth it! There are occasional benches along the way and the 6 year old that was with us made it up fine as well. The views from the top are breathtaking, the castles are neat, and it was super peaceful. We... More

A truly stunning place and so atmospheric. Head to the furthest castle early in the day and work your way back to avoid the crowds.

The visitor centre is about to be updated which I think it needs. impressive views of the four castles from the viewing area but it looked like a long trek up the hills if you wanted to get closer. Not much in the Visitor centre.

Despite being over 30 degrees and being less fit than I would like, the climb was certainly worth it. The valley is amazingly beautiful and the castles give an idea of an era long gone. There are places to rest in the shade of the way up and after some water and a shaded rest after reaching Chateau number one... More

We went to the Belvedere viewing point first to see these four ruins in their amazing setting. We then drove back down to the village to park and begin the walk and recommend doing it in that order. Yes it was hot, but if you take it easy and take plenty of water and in our case our sandwiches, it... More

These castles are stunning, set in the wonderful backdrop of hilly countryside and full of evocative visions of the Cathars and others. We went to Belvedere to park and look at the castles as it's apparently a 2 hour walk to get to them (and was much too hot to do that!). There's a €2 per person charge to park... More

4 old ruins on top of the hill. Great view and lost of wind! :) An old cave and 4 towers to climb on the will where great. Make sure take water with you, you need to start all the way at the bottum.

This was well worth the 25minute drive from Carcassonne. If you have half a day spare this is an essential part of the French Cathar experience. Some words of warning. Parts of the ascent are risky. This is not suitable for children with poor danger sense. Very young children and the very elderly will tire from the ascent and un... More
