We went here on our honeymoon and our experience were good. They welcomed us warmly and we had a blast. We talked about dogs, how they treat them and a lot off other things, how they have done a lot off work to improve conditions better than those have been before with the previous owner. They are doing this with heart and passion and always thinks first what is the best for the animals. We went to family hiking with the huskyes with the quide "Saukko". Definitely want to come again, everything went well. We liked that they gave us time and talked with us, also got to drink coffee etc afterwards without hurry.

Awesome experience for us. Our guide Martjin aka. Saukko is a cool guy and very friendly. I would recommend the 10km safari over the 5km one. Or even longer trip. After the trip we had some Makkara (sausage) and coffee, then it was free roaming beside the dogs. Great for couples and families or bigger groups.

Amazing day with the huskies - also better value to go direct than go through the tour operator. Would strongly recommend

Skiing in Ruka & first time in Finland, I was keen to "experience" husky sledding BUT most (all?) venues appeared to state or imply prices assuming 2 people yet I was travelling alone. Having discovered Erä-Susi (via TripAdvisor), I emailed my request and received a quick response (thank you Mervi) with an offer for visit with '5km solo ride' the very next day; good news. Unfortunately I then discovered that a return taxi journey would be at least 50euros which travelling alone would have made the overall cost prohibitive. Undeterred I contacted Mervi again and she informed me that the ski bus (number 3) stopped nearby; very good news. I then discovered that bus number 3 was less than frequent meaning that I'd need to get the 10:25am bus (from Ruka) if I was to be in time to arrive for the pre-arranged 12:30 at Erä-Susi. The weather for the morning wasn't looking good (for skiing anyway) so I wasn't concerned. The bus trip isn't covered by "ski pass" (more later) but it arrived on time and I was the only passenger. I showed the driver (on my smartphone) where I wanted to go and paid the fare. The bus then passed 5 'stops' (no more passengers!) until arriving at the Erä-Susi stop about 8 minutes from Ruka start. It was then a short walk (about 5 minutes) down the short cul-de-sac road (beautifully lined with snow covered trees) to my destination. So I arrived at about 10:45 for a 12:30 'visit'! I entered the gated compound with no-one obviously around and walked towards the 'office looking' building ('souvenir shop') directly opposite. At this point I was seen by someone who approached me (very welcoming, if not a little surprised) and I explained about the emails etc. At this point I paid and was told that there was currently a '10km trip' out but I could explore the rest of the "farm" (other animals, kennels etc.) and possibly get drink/food in café building; the price included a snack + drink. I was surprised how quickly the time passed as I wondered around and it was good to see the '10km sleds' arrive but fascinating to hear the huskies still at the farm reach a crescendo of noise as they sensed(?) the arrival of their 'compatriots' even before I had seen them on the horizon!! There were 4 of us for the 5km sledding. Myself, a couple from Holland and a woman from elsewhere in Finland. We were given the safety briefing e.g. use of hand (arm) signals ('go', 'stop' & 'slow down') all very simple once we got going but a little intimidating at the time! The safety briefing included 'dog welfare' like keeping the 'harness rope' taut by applying the sled brake (as with a car foot brake) to slow down the sled downhill to stop it getting too close to the dogs. We were also reminded that the dogs loved what they were doing (self-evident) but in their excitement, could be unpredictable ... something that I was aware of early on in my journey when my group just stopped!! That said the experts from Erä-Susi were quickly on hand to get us going again and I can confidently state that my dogs were far keener to 'keep going' and the safety advice about holing on tight and brake awareness were VERY important because it felt like the sled acceleration 0 to ??km was like a Ferrari!! At about halfway we all stopped for a change of sled passenger to driver (not in my case) together with the kind Erä-Susi staff accompanying us to take photos with our phones/cameras. We were soon underway again and all too quickly, back at the Erä-Susi base. Interestingly, the dog teams put on an extra fast spurt in the final wide turn into 'home' as though they were in a race but probably because they knew they were home! Once the sleds were secured we could release the brake and get off. It is then customary to "thank the dogs" by stroking & petting and there was further opportunity for photos. I should state here that whilst I love dogs, I'm really wary (scared?) of them however all of the huskies welcomed the attention and one of 'my' team ("Rumba") I would happily have taken home! We were now invited to another building for the (included) snack (local pastry + sausage) & tea/coffee; a nice touch was that the drink was served in a locally produced recepticle (?cup). During our snack we had an opportunity to chat/share experiences and a friendly member of the Erä-Susi team remained with us to provide more information and answer any questions about the dogs etc. I can honestly say that this was a fantastic activity and I would recommend this to anyone. My only regret was that I hadn't done the 10km trip ..... next time?! I got the 2:35pm ski bus back to Ruka. This time the bus was pretty full but it had the same driver. Strangely, it cost me 8euros (paid by card) for the outward journey but only 4euros (paid cash) for return journey? Still, a lot cheaper than a taxi! Back in Ruka, I went skiing (see other reviews!)
