About
About 40 meters high Rapunzel tower in the historic castle of Trendelburg (now Hotel u. Restaurant) from the 13th century. Interesting is the local prison museum and the staircase with 133 steps, the original paper cut by the artist Albert Völkl featuring the Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales. Wait for a while before the observation deck in full armor 4 keeper of the winds.

Provides moments to understand what life was when the castle was built. Pause at the top to see the land around the area; it is a beautiful sight. The Metal stairwell is unnerving.

Excellent hotel and accommodations. The serves was wonderful and the restaurant menu and service was outstanding. The scenery was everything you’d expect from a castle.

You should acquaint yourself with the fairy tale before you visit the tower .... actually, the Hotel Trendelburg has plenty of very informative material.

The descent, as well as the ascent can be quite strenuous, and certainly is not for folks that are afraid of very tight spaces. On the other hand, the view from the top of the tower is spectacular!

Do not miss Rapunzel at 3:00 on Sundays. She reads a story to the kids in German and poses for photos for about 15 minutes. Great fun for the kids.

It's amazing what you can do by just slinging some rope out of of tower window!

We are slightly biased in our review thanks to our three year old's reaction of actually seeing "Rapunzel's" hair hanging out of the tower. She totally believed this was Rapunzel's actual tower. As did we, to be honest. It's the most amazing thing to see when you arrive in Trendelburg. The courtyard, drawbridge and views are lovely.

We didn't climb the tower, largely because we'd already seen similar views from another tower down the road and the entrance price seemed quite expensive to us - especially in comparison to other attractions in the area (it's about €5 per person). There were no staff available to speak to when we arrived to find out about any price reductions. Otherwise we might have taken the trip up the tower.

You must have a heart of stone not to get a reaction when you see the tower. It's a very pretty village. Nothing really here, but it does what it says on the tin and doesn't disappoint.

Attached to a private hotel, the tower is open to non guests for a small fee and worth a visit - you can go down to the dungeons and up to the very to - stairs are spiral and a little twisty to start with then there is an iron open tread spiral staircase so if like me you are not good with heights be warned - it's quite shaky so not for everyone!
Lovely approach to the hotel/tower through a little arch into a large cobbled courtyard where you can sit and get a drink and look out at the view. Village is lovely and the Tower is tucked away - not the best signposted, a few car parking spaces are available. We visited in the late afternoon and it was very quiet but a good time to call past for an hour.

Even as two grown ups in their early thirties, we loved it! There aren't really any other attractions in town so it wasn't difficult to find.
The setting was just beautiful and I really felt like I was in the Rapunzel fairy tale!
It costs €4.5 pp to enter the tower and you just pay this at the hotel reception and go up on your own. Once you enter, you have the choice to either go down or up the spiral staircase. Downstairs is a replica of a torture chamber with explanations in English and at the top, you get a great view over the city. Don't forget to pop out on the balcony about half way up for a great photo opportunity! I'm not afraid of heights but my legs definitely felt weak on that tiny balcony! Also plenty of great photo ops from the outside!

Really keen to see this as part of Grimm fairy tale route. Struggled to find it as not well sign posted. Very nice tower with added touch of rope of hair hanging from window. Not quite the 'fairytale' - could have been more magical. Had to pay entrance and the kids enjoyed going up and down the tower but all done within half an hour. Lovely view from top.

Naturally a visit here was a must. It has been somewhat decorated and there is quite impressive torture chamber in the tower, but it could have been done even nicer.....

Relatively newly restored, with "Angstloch" (=dunegon) deep and great views from the top of the tower.
(Free admission for hotel guests).
