A memorial to a plane crash. The worst in Canadian history. 256 people, 148 of the 101 screaming eagles died here in 1985.

Gander has a rich aviation history, and if you walk the trails surrounding the silent witness you will see debris from past wrecks. The silent witness is touching, with the cross being a nice touch.

This is a peaceful place to visit but you do feel a strange sense of loss. The Silent Witness memorial is a nice tribute to those that were lost in the crash in 1985.

If you are an American citizen visiting Newfoundland, it is your moral duty to visit this memorial. We spent hours here remembering our lost brothers and sisters who were returning to Fort Campbell,Kentucky from a peace keeping mission in Egypt. May God bless their souls.

I was very young when this happened, so I wasn't aware of the story. I visited with my parents who knew about the crash. Was touching.

My husband found this on TripAdvisor so we stopped on our way out of Gander. They did a beautiful job. I did not know that this was the greatest airplane disaster in Canada.
