Best part of Drumheller
Aug 2021
This was honestly the best thing in the area. Much more interesting than Drumheller itself! There's a trail down into the canyon, beautiful badlands landscapes, and VERY FEW tourists. We live in the GTA and were laughing because if this were anywhere near TO, there would be hordes of tourists! If you weren't looking for it, you would drive right past, there's nothing to indicate there is a canyon there. Definitely recommend. Kids would love climbing.

Stop off for the view
Sep 2021
If you are looking for a unique place to hike - this is it. Going into the canyon is like going underground - a few million years ago. The multicolored striations - the naturally sculptured mounds are eerie and fascinating.

Good for hikers

Well laid out with lookouts for those who can't get around. Stairs and a ramp down into the canyon with good trail setup. $2 parking fee. Free admission.

Worth the trip from Drumheller!
Aug 2021 • Couples
Wonderful little hike down and into the canyon. Beautiful scenery, plan to spend about an hour here. $2 for parking. There's multiple viewpoints at the top if you don't want to walk

Great Short Stop
Jul 2021
Really enjoyed stopping here - you wouldn't suspect a canyon lies here when just driving past on the road. It's small, and won't take you long to walk around and down in the canyon - about an hour or so. You are not supposed to go off the path in the canyon, though many people do.

Great spot for a brief stop with very cool topography.

Beautiful scenery, worth a visit
Jul 2021
Beautiful, amazing scenery. Horseshoe canyon offers excellent hiking and mountain biking, in absolutely beautiful scenery, and is definitely worth a day trip. There isn’t much else here, so plan to bring snacks, a picnic etc and enough water if you visit in the summer.

This area is much nicer than Drumheller in my opinion, but could do with some investment. If you didn’t know it was here, you’d drive right by as the canyon isnt really visible from the roads.

I left it at 3 stars only because i think it could be marketed better. It’s a huge area, and could attract adventure/adrenaline junkies if it saw some investments. Groomed mountain bike trails, zip lines, etc, complimented by some cafes/coffee shops, etc

Awesome hiking into Alberta's Badlands
Jul 2021 • Family
My family and I love the dessert and the kind of landscapes we normally associate with Southern Utah so we were really excited to visit the Drumhell area. Horseshoe Canyon is a beautiful spot run by the local county (I had no idea we had countys in Canada!!!). Parking was only $2 and the staff were really friendly and even did some research for us to help us find another hike. There's picnic tables and outhouses at the top of the canyon and then a trail leading down. Once you're at the bottom it's a little challenging to find more trails as they're not marked but we didn't have any trouble finding a path that led us further into the canyon and we were soon out of sight of a single other tourist!

The topography is the main attraction with all sorts of beautiful rock formations but in early July there was also tons of cacti, many of them flowering as well as wildflowers.

An amazing visit that was definitely the highlight of our Drumhe visit.

Ground Squirrel Heaven
Jul 2021
On route to Calgary and literally right off the highway. You need to stop and see the ground squirrels and take pictures of the canyon before heading out.

Charging for parking cash grab - skip it
Jun 2021 • Family
In yet another silly grab for money, the local county is charging $2 for parking. Because of all the heavy construction equipment in the area, there was no where else to park to access public lands.

What a waste of time! In the hour that we sat there on a Monday afternoon, we saw 4 cars, bringing in a grand total of $8. However, the two young attendants sitting in lawn chairs are earning $15/hr. each. That makes this a losing proposition at best and creates ill-will for the public. We won't be bringing out-of-towners here anymore.

Give it a miss.

Beautiful area, lots of hiking, close to Drumheller. Very friendly hosts at the campground, good value for the full service campsites.
