Historic site gives entertainment as well as some history, if yiou can take the steam train from Port Alberni (town) to the mill site it is a great trip.

If you wish to see the history of logging and forestry in this area go to Duncan Forestry Museum. It is easy to find, cost is realistic and you will see the same.

My heart was in my mouth watching the looting demonstration, the volunteers that did it were absolutely amazing. The logs were huge and they moved them with such skill. The whole museum is excellent, I loved seeing the workings and how they lived. A must do to get a sense of Vancouver Island's largest industry.

Arrived at the Mill aboard the Alberni Pacific Steam Train along with a group of modern day loggers from Sweden. They wanted to see the 1929 steam donkey in operation. Because they decided to eat first the steam donkey demonstration was later than advertised, however the volunteers who operate the equipment and the commentator kept the crowd well entertained until... This place is better than a museum. This is a real working saw mill using early to mid 20th century technology. Couple that to the steam train that takes you on a half hour from downtown Port Alberni to the mill site you have a unique historical gem, probably the only one of its kind. The next time we have... an excellent way to spend a day. The volunteers are a pleasure to talk to, as many have lived the past. The demonstrations are very educational.

I have been here many times, and it is well worth the effort of finding it. A good reflection on what the old style mills were like. Try to plan a visit when the steam donkey Y&L (yarding and loading) is happening. Best improvement they could make is in the signs from Highway 4 on how to get there. Those... More

My family and I took the steam train out to the mill. The train ride was fantastic. My 2.5 year old is still talking about it. The volunteer conductor was engaging and entertaining. At the site, the main tour guide was fantastic, very entertaining and knowledgeable. Witnessing the operation of the mill was interesting. Now the reasons for why I... More

nice setting in the woods, you can climb into old trucks and all, they've got a site conserved how they used to haul the logs out of the forest, you can check out the cook house, the actual sawmill etc. A fun thing to do is to take the old steam train from Port Alberni to the mill.

My partner and I stumbled upon this great historical spot while exploring Port Alberni one Sunday. We arrived late in the afternoon with only an hour till closing but were offered to roam free on our own. A friendly gentleman from the admission office gave us some direction and the spots of the Mill to see. We enjoyed the small... More
