Worthwhile stopping at this centre

The Discovery Centre provides a bit for everyone. For the outdoor enthusiast they provide information to the back country (very helpful in the winter to ski tourers). Can be a good break spot if you are driving through and need a break. Also provides a great history lesson of the area.

They show a film here about how they control avalanches by shooting canons and there were several animals put on display by a taxidermist. The ranger was very nice and gave good information. The views from the parking lot are amazing.

We stopped here as it broke the journey up as we made our way down to Kamloops. It is well worth a stop. There is historical information as well as information about British Columbia Wildlife. It is sad to see the Glacier Lodge all boarded up and to read about its fate in the 1920s with the loss of the... More

This stop was more about a break from driving and a comfort break than wanting to see the Centre. We visited on 8/9/2016. The staff were very helpful and answered all our questions in detail. We bought the Annual Parks Canada Pass here. Enjoyed all the exhibits on the history and construction of the railway. Not a great fan of... More

I didn't know this but apparently the Canadian army shoots at avalanches to control their size and impact.

Very interactive and a good place to stretch and let the kids run a bit. Sadly the lodge, restaurant and gas station are all boarded up and left in a state of ruin - a travesty, really. But the Discovery Centre is still going strong and offers an amazing and informative rest stop. Note: entry counts as a stop in... More

The Discovery Centre is very basic. It has the expected diorama's of the area and requisite taxidermied animals on display but nothing special. There is no gift shop.

This place is great. However there is a strong chance you will miss it. It is located in a parking lot also housing a hotel which is abandoned. The area looks like it is under construction. We drove right by thinking we were in the wrong place. The discovery centre is a one storied building with a "green" roof meaning... More

Pay the $6 per person for a 24-hour National Parks pass in order to view all of the displays in the visitor centre. Displays and written signage tell the extraordinary story of the men who forged the path through the mountains against incredible odds. Be sure to spend time watching the documentary films about the Pass and Avalanche management systems... More
