Seals seeking salmon and wonderful views.

We arrived to watch a fisherman pulling in his nets and holding the most fabulous huge salmon and to our delight seals bobbing for salmon treats.

The crown jewel of the estuary is the Spit, where we saw a pair of huge squawking ravens challenge the kiteboarders for air supremacy : -).

We were lucky enough to be able to paddle on the estuary on a calm day when the tide was turning, so we did not have waves, wind, tide or current to contend with. It was very tranquil and the views and reflections spectacular. We saw king fishers, blue herons and an eagle. We saw seals while paddling around from... More

We saw lots of different birds in addition to a huge group of Canada Geese and their babies! Peaceful and quiet when we visited. No facilities so take care of business before you travel out to the Spit.

Our Airbnb had a trail that led to the estuary and it was a very pleasent surprise that we found this place. It is so nice, quiet, secluded yet accessible from downtown. We enjoyed a very good walk with our dog and took lots of very nice pictures.

We went out on the spit and enjoyed the view, sun and breeze on March 25 and then decided to have our picnic on a sand bar of the Squamish River. Put up a wind break and had a great time with scenery all around. Collected some interesting rocks too.

Nice walking trails, saw lots of birds (migratory and otherwise) and lots of fish in the shallow water. A good place to enjoy nature for an hour or two. Very few other people around on the day we were there (actually, none, now that I think of it).

The estuary is out on a spit of land extending into the sound. There were a number of kite surfers enjoying the stiff breeze. There is a walking path around some of the estuary, with educational signs. Some graffiti and trash was around. We saw several species of birds over the water.

The Squamish Estuary is an outstanding spot to explore if you like hiking, bird watching or are an avid botanist - if you like kite boarding this is the spot for you. Grab a Kayak and explore the river - take a hike and you will see wonderful birds. This area is also home to Black Bears and bobcats! If... More
