This place sadly needs a lot of professional guidance, up keep, and a stated purpose on what it is trying to educate.

Unfortunately the observatory has sat empty since last August while we wait for the town of Richmond Hill to make decisions on its future operations. Please consider providing a review when the site is operational. More

It was a most interesting visit. We got to see the vacuum chamber used to re-coat the mirror and behind the scenes on how they get equipment up and down. We also visited the library and the workshop. All in all a great tour of behind the scenes workings. Of course we saw the telescope and got a fascinating description... More

Nice and educated staff will take time to explain and guide you. Bring kids if they can be quiet for 1 hour or so.

The Dunlap Observatory has an interesting history; it costs little to get there and to enjoy the night. The grounds are gorgeous and a great place to picnic or just stroll around. A great place to take the family, a date, or some folks that may be vistiting you from out of town.

I remember going here as a child on starry nights, as a teenager and even in the many years that have recently past. But to drive by now and see the land and what they have done, is crazy!! A large forest completely wiped out. The observatory is still there and you can go on certain nights they have it... More

Those who live in the Richmond Hill area have no doubt heard and read about all the development battles in this area - to the point of media fatigue I'm sure. BUT - once you actually go to the property it gives a completely new perspective. It really is quite something to see. The building is majestic and if you... More

This place is worth checking out if you have never been here before. They often feature different speakers each week in the summer to talk about astronomy. Even if listening to the speakers is not your thing, you get a tour of the facility and a chance to look through the telescope. Definitely worth going to but maybe not a... More

Old observatory but well maintained. Nice volunteer staff explain in detail about the observatory history. Guide you well to sky watching and create intrest in astronomy. Very educative and intersting place to visit. Lot of staff watching with telescopes and allow to see their planet observations.
