This is not a casual walk for a tourist in flip flops or high heels. The Grouse Grind is a legendary hike up Grouse Mountain. It is a short but steep hike that takes a average hiker over an hour to complete. If you are...More

A really hard slog but so rewarding! It wasn't until I took the Skyride down that I realised how far and how steep the climb is. The fresh mountain air is addictive, and whilst there are no views on the way up the walk is...More

Excellent exercise and a wonderful sense of achievement when you reach the top. Don't do it though if you are unsteady on your feet or can not handle at least 90-120 minutes of climbing rocky stairs up the side of a mountain. My husband agonized...More

We hiked the Grouse Grind! I'm a not-too-fit 55 year old. My husband and our 3 children (in their early 20's) hiked the Grind. It was pretty difficult for me, but thankfully my sweet family helped me throughout the climb. The rest of my family...More

The attraction of the Grind is that it is an outdoor cardio workout for people who live in North Van. Other than that, it's a tedious, litter-strewn slog up an uninteresting mountain packed with sweaty lycra-clad posers rushing past you, trying at all costs to...More

We went up the Grouse Grid this past August, it was a challenge for myself. It took me two hours and thirty minutes but my daughter took one hour and twenty minutes. After the first quarter, I put the clock away and enjoyed the journey...More

Must do activity in Vancouver but it is definately a grind. Uphill the whole way and the 1/4 mark was heartbreaking but this is well worth the effort. Takes 45-90 mins depending on fitness. Bring insect repellant if you because you will get bitten if...More

I would not recommend the Grind for a hike. There is nothing enjoyable about it unless you are looking for an intense cardio work out. For first timers, try the BCMC trail first. It is a bit easier (without the huge steps) and ends in...More

There are much nicer hikes on the North Shore, but this is a must do hike - partially just to say that you've done it and partially because the view is great and things to do at the top are so much fun (the lumberjack...More

This thing is tough. Period. For your first time take it easy. Wear hiking shoes or boots or you will do the 'descent of shame' . Grab a burger and a shake when your done.

Take ur time and enjoy the hike. I did it as fast as I could. U can do it! But definitely take water. And buy a t-shirt at the top - gives the specifics -3000 steps, etc. Have fun!
