The Arataki visitors centre is easy to get to and great for kids and adults. There's free tea and coffee, a huge space with decking and bean bags and deck chairs to rest in the sun. The ranger staff are very knowledgeable about the Waitakere ranges and the tracks you can go on. Directly across the rd from the centre... More

A fantastic location, with walking trails branching off. Some are quite steep and rugged, others much more gentle — so there's something for everyone. It's also a great place to have a picnic. So don't miss it!

The staff here are incredibly helpful in planning your day trip or tramp in the Waitakere Ranges. The views are stunning and the nature trail loop is beautiful. Safe secure parking if you are doing overnight tramps. Interesting information about the local area and displays of local artwork. Well worth the 40 minute drive from central Auckland. Bring a picnic... More

The 11m high Maori post at the front of the Visitor Centre is one of the largest of its kind in NZ. It gives the Centre a very outstanding looking. Upstairs is where all the resources are: knowledgeable staff, information brochures, art gallery, kid's corner, viewing deck, and even coffee machine . AV room downstair provides a free 12 minutes... We popped in here because we saw the sign for danish ice creams! Firstly the ice creams were delicious and the gentleman serving them even took our photo in the frame next to his stall (good customer service!) Then we went into the AV room and watched the 12 min video on the Waitakere's. What a great short clip showcasing... More

The views over the two harbours from Arataki are amazing. I would definitely recommend coming here for the view. There are also some fun activites for the wee ones insdie the Visitor Centre. If you are up for a walk, I would recommend the walk across the road. There are some impressive Kauris and views over the city. It's well... More

Stunning 360 degree panoramic views, clean, modern, informative, great friendly staff. Small gift shop and ice cream stand too. Great history lessons and gifts too (local). The views and walks are what got me, simply stunning in every way. Here, you can see both sides of New Zealand in one place at one time. Quite cool that way. As someone... More

I took a walk from Titirangi along the Expedition track and Beveridge Trail to Arataki. The centre is an impressive construction with amazing views over the forest canopy towards Manukau Bay. The displays are well put together: not so much information as to overwhelm, and the downstairs film gives a great introduction to the Waitakerie Range. The plant trail is... More
