Disappointed
Sep 2019
Travelled from Lleida to Monzon today to visit the castle. Unfortunately it was closed (Tuesday) although web-site says it's open. We met other disappointed tourists standing outside the castle who had also check the web-site to ensure it was open. As travellers from Australia that are just passing through we have missed the opportunity to see the castle.

A very well-restored Crusaders castle with beautiful views
Aug 2016 • Solo
Castillo de Monzón is a castle located in the upper part of the little town called Monzón. It is one of the many castles, which were built in 10-11th Century by Crusaders to reconquer Iberian Peninsula to the Muslims, located in the region. It is very well conserved and restored, and you can visit some parts of the old castle. In a room of the castle, you can see an exposition about the Crusaders. Moreover you can see beautiful views from the castle. Really, the zone seems a desert and you can imagine a battle in the Middle Ages. Moreover, during my visit I could hear shots all the time, probably from an army barracks near the town, and it seems an attack to the castle in the 17-18th century. A very interesting visit, if you can learn about Crusaders.

It's a proper castle

Castles on hills don't get much better than this. Nicely restored but not over-done, as much or as little information as you want and no pressure to hurry round. You want to charge about pretending to fire arrows from the battlements? Go ahead. At 3€ per adult, this was cheap and fun with a spot of culture and history thrown in. Well worth the visit.

One of the best Spanish medieval castles
Sep 2011 • Family
A massive castle on the top of a hill in the right centre of the town of Monzon, in Aragon, near the Pyrenees and well connected to Barcelona and Zaragoza. There are parts from IX to XIII centuries, remarkably preserved, perhaps the Templar castle best preserved. Its location is amazing, it can be seen from miles. Besides authentic (totally different from fake French castles, rebuilt with spiky towers in Modern ages) it is also beautiful. For History llovers, here they happened a lot of Medieval facts, like the kidnapping of future James the first, conqueror of Valencia and Majorca, when he became orphan....
In summertime, going up walking from the city centre is hard, you can feel really hot, but the views are impressive. Take enogh water with you.
And please (to the owners): please keep like it is now. Don't do fake restorations, it's really not necessary.
