The highlight of the Dandong trip was the visit to the Hushan section of the Great Wall located just 20km out of town. Ten years ago, I was the only visitor at this wall (although it was on a weekday in low season) and I...More

Visiting the Great Wall at Dandong was a really impressive excursion. Especially the nearby Border to North Korea makes this trip special to me. Hiking on top of the Great Wall and climbing up to the top is quite exhausting but worthy. If you have...More

This section of the Great Wall is not ancient or even very old but it's quite beautiful in every season -- even winter. Don't get stuck out there at night or in winter. We asked a taxi to wait for us but he said, No,...More

This is not a very long section of the wall but there are a lot of stairs! It’s a challenging walk to the top but worth every step. The view over Dandong and North Korea is breath taking. A great place!

The bus leaves from in front of the train station and costs 5 yuan. It drops you in front of the entrance. The site was nice but only took 1 hour to visit and nothing compared to the other Great Wall sites I visited. While...More

A few hours drive north-east of Dalian is the eastern end of the Great Wall of China. If you saw the new movie starring Matt Damon, you will want to see The Great Wall. Easier than a trip to Beijing is the trip from Dalian...More

This section of wall has been totally rebuilt in the style of parts of The Great Wall on the basis that they did find some evidence that a wall of some sort once existed there. Nevertheless it is impressive and worth a visit if you...More

A very peaceful day trip on wonderfully restored section of the Great Wall!! I don't believe the area is promoted too much for tourism because of the proximity to the North Korean border, but it is well worth the effort if you are in that...More
