I'll give a very honest and unbiased review here with all things considered. Please see my many TripAdvisor reviews for good reads on my travel experiences! https://www.tripadvisor.com/members/Erin_leigh79 Hubby and I stopped in here on our early morning departure from Paihia leavning our B&B (see my review of Morepork B&B: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g255110-d1047478-Reviews-or5-Morepork_Riverside_Lodge-Paihia_Bay_of_Islands_Northland_Region_North_Island.html#REVIEWS). We wanted to visit the famous Waitomo Caves while in Auckland, but the long bus ride there and back discouraged us. Needless to say we were disappointed. When we discovered the Kawiiti Caves, we were very excited. Our cruise ship stopped in the Bay of Islands. We took a short shuttle ride from the ship to Paihia. From there we... More

Family run. Very informative. Not a very large place. Caves have stalactites and stalagmites and and as you go in you see the glow worms. Guides are knowledgeable. While I cannot find fault with the place and it was good, I would not rave about it. Nevertheless, if it is your first trip to see glow worms, do not miss... More

Very informative and enthusiastic guide. Got to see the glow worms up close. Well worth the visit and the walk inside is easy.

A short (200m) guided walk into the caves. You can get really close to the Glow-Worms and the caves would be worth a visit even without them! Good sized car park and track, although unsealed, was ok for our motorhome as it was only about 1km long. Our group was about 10 people which is probably the maximum so we... More

Very knowlegeable tour done by a family of locals, passionate about their job and heritage. Not very big but quite impressive, nice activity to do if you are in Paihia on a rainy day!

Small family run venture a few minutes from main road. Short boardwalk of approx 200 metres into the caves. Car park is adjacent to entrance. So after a short walk with lights off you see the glow worms. Truly amazing experience. Not a long stop about an hour but worthwhile to see this unique natural occurrence. Guide was informative.

We already saw the lake glowworms through tauranga night kayak activities. But this one is very different. It's a short guided walk into the caves. You can see the worms itself, their fishing threads in proximity. The guide was a lovely young lady who was very accommodative even though we were late. She was very knowledgeable and answered all our... More

Very interesting to learn about the life cycle of the glowworms. We had a good guide who explained all about them. I had never seen anything like this, so I was quite impressed. The thousands of glowworms illuminate the ceiling of the caves. The stalagmites and stalactites are also breathtaking. It is an easy walk with few steps.
