Towering about 550 meters over the northern part of Jordan River this site was chosen by the Crusaders to built a fortified fortress to protect the main roads leading into the land from east. This fortress called Belvoir for the beauty of the land that can be seen from here, was the last stand of the Crusader kingdom in the fight against Salah aDin's Ayoobi conquest in the 14th century. Ultimately the Knights of Hospitalar signed a treaty of defeat after months of siege and they were allow to retreat to the port of Tzur and vacate the holy land. This is a must place to visit for people who are interested in history and archeology. There is a very beautiful view of the valley and the hills of Jordan and Golan. The site is administered by Israel's National Parks Association. There are restroom and a gift shop. The site is accessible for wheelchairs.

Known also as Star of Jordan and Kawkab al-Hawa (star of wind in Arabic) is a Crusader fortress located high overlooking the Beit Shean valley and the old road to Jordan and Syria, There is a magnificent view over the valley and Gilad mountains in Jordan. A fabulous sculpture park by the known sculpture Tomarkin. The Fortress itself stand high in black colors (of the basalt stones), surrounded by moat. The inner structure is also impressive with many arches. Place to visit.

We came all the way to see this place on Saturday just to be turned away by rude staff who refused to let us in 1 hour before closing.

The site is significantly improved since we visited it 20 years ago, and it now really gives the feeling of crusader times Past. Also the view onto the Jordan Valley is spectacular.

Aka Kokhav Ha'Yarden (Jordan Star), this national park occupies heights of the Jordan Valley near See of Galilee that allow for the most incredible sweeping views. The castle itself is ruins that actually give you a pretty good idea of how it used to be in its heyday in the 12-13 centuries. I had the park practically to myself on a mid-November Monday afternoon.
