I am a regular visitor to the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens. It doesn't matter what time if the year, there is always an abundance and variety of flowers, plants and birds. It is well maintained. The mountains form a fantastic backdrop. Just avoid the restaurant. Bad service and food.

This beautiful understated Botanical garden is an ideological paradise, a heaven for beauty that says welcome to springtime in South Africa. Easy even walks throughout the general grounds but also pathways that lead up towards the mountains and thereafter beautiful scenic views out to the ocean. Good restaurant, although a picnic would make the perfect half day, friendly staff and... More

The gardens have some nice plants and are well worth a visit. Don't expect the large expanses of Kirstenbosch, but there are some lovely areas in the garden and it's worth a visit if you are passing. There are some longer walks available from the garden if you have the right clothing.

Our birder group spent at least an hour trying to see several singing Victorin's Warblers.....without success. These birds are masters at staying hidden, even as they approach closer and closer. Eventhough they have a big sound, they could be the size of an ant, for all that they allowed us to see. The gardens are very pleasant to enjoy, and... More

On our way to Hermanus and being a nice sunny day we stopped at our favourite spot the Harold Porter botanical gardens. Paradise. Well kept and maintained. On the mountain side there are many fynbos species together with other colourful Protea flowers . We decided also to have a quick meal as it was nearing lunch time. The restaurant is... More

This small and relatively unknown garden is a jewel. Watch out not to miss it while driving. It is worth a visit any time of the year. Well maintained walkways lead you through the planted as well as through the natural part of the park. For a walk on the zig-zag path you need good shoes and at least 3... More

We broke our journey from Hermanus to Cape Town airport at the gardens, and found them delightful to stroll round. We did not have time to walk to the waterfalls, but the gardens themselves were more than worth the entrance fee.

I would recommend this garden even if you are not a "garden buff". We visited in the spring, lots of flowers in bloom, plants are labeled and well tended. It's a beautiful setting, lovely strolls and hikes.

One of the Cape's hidden gems. Took the family (youngest 2 years) for a lovely stroll through the gardens. The one walk is in the Disa-kloof and is even accessible with a wheelchair. Kids will love it and even the adults will enjoy the sounds, smell of fresh air and sight.

A superb location well laid out . Gardens are well tended and the bird life is very special . Restaurant Red Disa was too expensive for families and recommend you take your own picnic basket and coolies .
