Great place to retreat and relax. From Kayaking to row boating in this hidden paradise. Restaurant on site and plenty of Cervezas.

Lagartero is good. This place is infuriating.

I picked up about. 2kg of beer bottle caps in about 2 square meters in one of the multiple streams. A guard from inah told us that the bins are in such bad shape because if they were new people steal them... Skip the lakes, go to lagartero.

Our favourite place south of Comitan

Lagos de Colon is less known than Lagos de Montebello but it is more beautiful and more tropical. It is our favourite to take visitors. The water is so clear. You can swim, jump, have fish foot massage, etc. The neat thing about Lagos de Colon is there is a small pyramid and ruins within the area. After climbing the pyramid, you can swim in one of the lagoons. There is also a mini waterfall where you can observe a lot of Guatemalans crossing for the day, sometimes just to swim there. It is highly recommended if you are crossing to or from the Guatemalan border (Ciudad Cuauhtemoc /La Mesilla). It is only about 30 minutes from the border. There are also nice cabins for you to stay the night there.

GREAT OASIS NEAR GUATEMALA BUT MORE SAFE CAUSE IS MEXICO

If you like to conquer great lanscapes full with cristal clear lagoons here´s the place, this place is a natural water park that has 44 lagoons, 3 natural rivers, 14 cascades, it is of great value the entrance fee is about 2 dollars there are nice cozy log cabins inside the park that run from 30 dollars a night for a sibgle bed and $40 for a double bed. this place is about 3 hours drive from Tuxtla the state capital of Chiapas México.
Inside this "ejido" that the name of the land that belong to many locals is a archeological Mayan site worth exploring it, there many wyas to get there, for instance we arrive to the Tuxta International from Houston, Tx. We rent a 4x4 SUV and went there with GPS, in the way we visitied San Cristobal de las Casas a colonial city with many handcrafts and prehispanic cultures that still remain alive, then we drove southeast to Comitan city we stayed therefor the night there are many cheap not crappy hotels, after we ate breakfast we headed to this paradise, it is really great if you like a litle adventure, there were many highways and two way roads but it is really save, mostly in broad day light.

My favorite weekend spot!!

My husband and I are Americans living in Guatemala, and must renew our passport visas every 90 days. We have been going to Mexico, and after a friendly family recommended it, making regular trips to Lagos de Colon, outside of La Mesilla, GT. This is an astonishingly beautiful, peaceful and relaxing place to spend a few days. It is filled with rivers, springs, cascades of fresh water and is about a mile from a very accessible archaeological site as well. For less than $2.50 per person admission is very reasonable, there are hiking trails, swimming holes, boats for rent, picnic areas, cabins, and good food from local restaurants. It is clean, safe and an ecological reserve. Every time we have gone, we have been happy. And I can't wait to go back.
