Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very nice little museum that is interesting and free to visit. Well worth an hour of your time. Saw a few unique things.

If you haven't visited any arqueological zone near comitan, check out the museum so you can make a decision and have more information about the places you'll visit in comitan. Really help me to appreciate tenam puente and chinkultik better.

Another well displayed INAH museum in an old building with a pretty courtyard. The signage is minimal however and you cannot take photos even without flash. The guard there that day was very knowledgable and happy to share with us.

The information in the museum about development of society at different times was the outstanding, and the exhibits were clearly labeled so you could see progress and changes over time. It was the first time I've ever really enjoyed early art and history so much. Not a huge collection, but it did have actual pieces from nearby ruins we had visited at Chinquiltic, and made that visit more meaningful in retrospect. There was also a section on Tenam Puente. Most fun was the temporary exhibit consisting of copies of artifacts which one could touch and hold. It had braille and auto recordings to give many an opportunity. Such cute figures! Wish it were a permanent exhibit.

There was a soda vending machine, so if you're folks like us who read and ponder everything we see in a museum and need a break, you can have a drink and enjoy sitting around the beautiful patio. There are also clean, well-functioning bathrooms.

Unfortunately, at this time there are no English transcriptions of the excellently-written signs. I was able to translate for my husband, but the lack of English is a definite loss. I have offered to provide them a translation if they will send me pictures of the signs, and am waiting to hear from them.

I've never studied Spanish, but have managed to pick up quite a
bit of it over the years. Signage here is mainly in Spanish. Some very nice artifacts. Good for about a hour.

We found two permanent exhibit rooms and one room that housed a traveling exhibit. The permanent rooms were only documented in Spanish whereas the traveling exhibit was documented in Spanish and English. There was a wide range of artifacts that were quite interesting. There were also quite a few photographs and paintings. We enjoyed spending about an hour there and found it quite worthwhile even though I wasn't able to understand much of what was written in Spanish!
