About
This is a unique driving experience over a private mountain farm in the Burren. We travel the route taken by the herdsmen of long ago to winter their cattle in the mountain. You can learn about life and farming in the Burren as well as the history, heritage, flora and fauna of this region. This is a real authentic experience of Irish life with a local family. The views of Galway Bay and the Atlantic Coastline from the top of the mountain are spectacular. Experience the magical and tranquility of the Burren landscape up close away from the main tourist spots. Walking options also available.

Really enjoyed this experience even if it wasn't a fine day. Anne is a very friendly and knowledgeable person and we enjoyed talking farming with her. So nice to be off the beaten track and almost have the place to ourselves. Thank you so much for generously sharing your little slice of paradise with us.

We enjoyed our tour. In fact it was a highlight of our Irish adventure. What looked from the roadway like a barren wasteland transforned into a historic, reverent, beautiful part of Ireland. John and Anne were knowledgeable and engaging. It was a privilege to walk through history with them.

Anne and John offer an amazing off-the-beaten-path look at the Burren that you'd never see from a tour bus, with ancient sights and panoramic mountaintop views of Galway Bay and the Aran Islands. They are stepped in local history and a pleasure to spend an afternoon with. I can't recommend it more.

We visit Anne and John every year. We were on the tour of the mountain with four of us in 2015 and with two in 2018.
We enjoy it every time: the beautiful landscape and the explanation from Anne and John about the uniqueness of the Burren.Anton & Anemarieke

What more could you want, a private tour on a beautiful mountain! We were taken on a approx 2 hour tour in a comfortable minivan. Lots of stops for pictures and short walks. Ann our tour guide is very knowledgeable about the area and accommodating with stops. The views of the bay from the top of the mountain are to die for! So peaceful and tranquil. A great way to see the Burren in a non touristy way. There is nothing like it along the Atlantic way!

Everything around Doolin seemed so touristy! The weather was uncharacteristically hot for Ireland and my wife has some mobility issues but we were looking for some way to experience the geography of the Burren. We saw a poster in the Tourist Information Center for Burren Mountain Tours.

I sent an email to the address on the poster and was surprised at how quickly Anne responded with the information I had requested and several suggested times that we could take the tour. Several more quick emails and we’d agreed upon a time and gotten simple directions to the meeting point.

Anne greeted us when we arrived and took us up into the mountain in her SUV. As we went Anne described her life on the farm, the land and the local customs. Up in the mountain the scenery was incredible as were the views of the North Sea and the Aran Islands.

High on the mountain the temperature was much cooler (a welcome relief). Anne stopped at various places along the “road” to describe the sights and we asked to stop at other spots just to get out and explore.

Anne was an excellent guide (we wondered if she was a teacher). The 90 minute tour was a unique opportunity to connect with the culture and really was the highlight of our time in western Ireland.

This is a fantastic tour, an absolutely unforgettable experience, and a very unique way to experience the Burren landscape. Anne and John took our large group (6 persons) up the mountain from Fanore and we walked for c. 3 miles on a track around the top of the mountain, seeing stunning views of the Burren, Aran Islands, Caher Valley and Galway from every angle. Anne and John are very knowledgeable about the landscape, history, flora and fauna of the Burren, and their mountain, and provide a fantastic overview of the area and the unique landscape . I would thoroughly recommend this tour, either as an introduction to the Burren area or as the perfect way to top off your holiday. Also, as the top of the mountain has a track, this tour is perfect for children, the elderly or visitors who could not otherwise climb a mountain due to the tricky terrain in the area. I cannot recommend this tour enough!

This is a new tour which takes about 2 hours. We phoned for a booking, arrived at the starting point along the road at Fanore and met our guide and driver (the lady of the house). She took the two of us up and around the mountain in a BMW 4x4. For a larger group she would use a 7 seater.
She gave an excellent overview of the history, geography, natural history and social history of this area of the Burren. We stopped to explore various features and look at the views out to the Aran Islands and inland up Caher Valley and across the Burren mountains. We really enjoyed the tour. It is unique in that the whole mountain has been owned by the family for many many generations and is not sudivided by walls in the same way as others. Some of the walls date to 3000BC. There are caves which are just recently discovered but not yet accessible.
The cost was €25 each which is a bit much but it was a personal tour and would be appreciated by elderly or infirm visitors who would not be able to experience access to the rugged landscape or the views in any other way.
