We visited the place today and we asked the association, located 10 mins before the plantation, that it is closed until 2020 for renovation. You can still see the place from the outside and there are also hiking routes starting from there, if that is something of interest to you. I would advise to follow the first turn after the coffee museum if you come from Dashaies, as the road is faster and less crazy. Be expected to drive through a jungle type road surround by amazing nature and little houses left and right. The road is narrow and there are a lot of ups and downs, careful driving using the klaxon is needed! Another reason to visit 2020 if you ask me :)

We drove up a narrow one lane winding road up the mountain through lush tropical greenery on a rainy day. The place has postings that it is closed until further notice.

The site is well preserved and interesting for those who know nothing about coffee and the harsh tropical agriculture. You can only visit the property with guided tour in French. The road is very narrow with very steep slopes and no visibility: an adventure in itself. Bring insect repellents or you will be eaten alive. Toilets upstairs were closed and those dowstairs were incredibly filthy.Fellow travellers preferred to hold on.

The road-despite all the warnings, the danger here which I had not encountered before was cresting the top of a hill which was so steep that you started descending the other side with the bonnet of your car still pointing up - and so you couldn't see the other side. Apart from this, the surface ( which my husband was worried would be unmade and invalidate the hire car insurance) WAS tarmaced. The road is actually very very quiet and so if you take care it can be done safely. Enjoyable visit. Stunning location with beautiful views of the forest and valley. The historical significance was apparent. I admit somewhat shame-facedly that our French ( both had done UK A level in 1974) was more rusty than I imagined and I didn't get a lot of the tour. I was too ashamed to ask the guide to slow down her delivery- everyone else appeared to understand perfectly and I didn't find her very approachable. I fully accept that the fault lies with us as we didn't go to Guadeloupe expecting people to speak English. Also for some reason I wore sandals with a small heel. The Domaine is up a steep hill from the car park which is floored with old cobbles. Wear flat shoes! Please understand that my rating is very personal and it was the most educational visit we made in Guadeloupe. Don't miss it.

Situated on the most intense road you have ever seen, it was a harrowing experience just to make it to La Grivilière. Barely one lane in places, riddled with steep inclines and blind corners, it required much straining just to see the road on the other side of hills, and lots of honking to warn oncoming traffic of our presence. But the stress was well worth it - do not let this obstacle deter you from visiting this wonderful place! Do opt in for the guided tour with the tasting included - you will be endlessly rewarded with a wealth of information about the growth and cultivation of coffee and cacao beans, made even more challenging in a National Park. You will taste the beans in all their forms, and learn about other fruits grown in the area. You will also get the chance to tour the Plantation, where the old workers' homes are being transformed into ecotourism rentals. You'll see the giant drying trays, installed on rails, rolled underneath the cafe, and then out into the sun. And you'll get to taste either the excellent coffee, made from the beans grown on site, or hot chocolate made from Chocolat de Pays, pure cacao paste. All of this is done with some of the most animated, friendly and informative guides - definitely worth it. Don't forget to stop by the shop before heading out - this is small-batch stuff, and you'll never find it anywhere else, so stock up for the ride home.
